Graphics

Déjà vu?

Wow, when I looked at Silver's graphics I was struck by the amazing detail and depth of the backgrounds. They are amazing and, dare I say it, superior to Final Fantasy VII's offering (no comparisons to FF8 as there is no PC version of FF8 to compare to.) After the backgrounds, came the characters, and these guys are amazingly blocky. Fortunately, their motions are very smooth and after a while you get used to seeing the rather… unimpressive characters on the stunning backdrop.

I hate to do more comparisons, but like FF7, Silver makes great use of various perspectives and camera angles. Some scenes you'll be looking at from up above, others from straight across or any other angle. It's very rare that I ever had a graphic obscure my vision and prevent my character from doing something. As this is especially important in combat (which occurs a fair bit, to say that least), I applaud the designers for getting the scenes to work so well.

Special Effects

As the game goes on you'll learn special moves and get magic. The special moves will cause your sword to leave a blue tint behind as it moves - a pretty nifty effect considering the game isn't 3D accelerated at all. The magic is OK, but nothing to get worked up over.

Overall

I'd have to say that the most impressive part about the graphics is the backgrounds. They are animated (spectacularly, I might add), colorful, well laid out and fit in with the game very well.
