I Had A Little Help From Mr. Smashy

Stomp, stomp, stomp. Those are the noises your feet make in Slave Zero. It's the world of the future, and you're a robot the size of a building. The evil dictator whose mega-corporation is destroying the planet and most of its citizens has created the "uber weapon," large 60 foot robots known as the Slave series combat units. These giant mecha are so powerful, that the rebels fighting the evil dictator (The Khan) will be crushed mercilessly unless they can build their own army of Slave series robots. The game starts as the rebels steal a single robot, Slave Zero. Your job as controller of Slave Zero is to gather the necessary materials for the rebels to create an army of Slaves for combat against the Khan.

Big robot vs. small tank

The version we got to play was a pre-beta, and as such, it isn't all that fair to judge Slave Zero's performance. The final version due out this month promises to have better framerate (our version was choppy on a Celeron 400 w/Riva TNT), more features, including multiplayer, and less bugs, as the development team continues tweaking and refining their "Ecstasy" engine. The demo did include one level of a futuristic city, not unlike the one in the movie "The Fifth Element." The entire game evokes that futuristic, industrial feel prevalent in many of today's movies.
