More Star Trek - Elite Force resources

Star Trek, a series with more spin-offs than I ever thought possible. To date, we have had the original series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager. Some of my friends really dug the original series; Kirk's patented speech pattern was such a turn on. Personally, I had more issues with Deep Space Nine than I care to name, that is until they got the hell off that stupid station. All I can say is give me Picard any day of the week. The best part about this review is I'll probably have more people comment on what I just said in the last few sentences than the rest of the article combined. As my friend use to say, "Out of the pot and into the fire."

Take that floor!

So what's up with Elite Force? Raven Software set out to create a game based on the Star Trek license, a license that has been ridden with an unusually large amount of crappy games. Elite Force had one thing going for it when they first started work on the project, using the Quake3 engine. If this game could have come out a little earlier it could have been the first game to use this renowned engine. Alas, that bit of notoriety went to FAKK 2. Well they can be second can't they?

Pesky thugs

FPS? Hmmm…

In the remote chance that the words Quake 3 didn't clue you in to what type of game this is, I'll explain now. Elite Force is essentially a first person shooter. No wait -- it IS a first person shooter. If you've played a game like Unreal Tourney or Q3, you've pretty much played this game. The only notable differences are the costumes, guns and landscape.

Screwed

Control-wise the only notable difference that I found was the use of a peek-around-corner button combo. This allows you to glance around a corner at your leisure. The enemies, even if looking directly at you, don't see your head poking precariously out the side of a wall. Very handy for those missions that require a decent amount of stealth. The rest of the control layout should be rather familiar to those of you with some experience with FPS games. Normal mouse/keyboard combo, or for the non-l33t a keyboard and an interesting time fiddling around with the PageUp and PageDown keys.
