Plot

Story-wise this game didn't disappoint. It's actually one of the strongest points of the game. Aside from its asinine ending, I was quite pleased. The plot takes off from the Voyager timeline. Your character is a member of a new squad called the Hazard Team (Note to self: Insert random joke, it's just too easy). As a member of this elite crew, your purpose is to tackle any situation that requires laying down the law.

Tuvok!

The game picks-up when Voyager answers a distress call from an unknown ship. The encounter results in a battle that ends with Voyager teleported to a portion of space that is filled with derelict starships. Some mysterious machine is keeping Voyager and the other ships captive here. Energy is slowly being drained like a baby with an insatiable appetite for a teat, to top it off raiders and other nasty things are attacking the ship. Needless to say, you and your red shirted buddies are sent to investigate.

He looks wimpy

Oh bother...

The first few levels were quite a treat. Innovative puzzles, and a little sneaking around, made the game rather enjoyable. After a few more levels passed, the levels became rather trying. The only thing keeping me going was my own curiosity. The later levels lost that puzzling edge that the first few had; they still managed to maintain that lovely linear structure. I never once had to explore my surroundings. If I hadn't been to a section of the level, it only meant one thing -- I hadn't yet reached it. There were never any forks in the levels. There was only one path through a level with absolutely no detours. The only time I got lost in a level was when I was wandering the hallways of Voyager. All those doors and walls look the same, after peeking at the map posted on one of the walls, even that ended.

Seeing as you are part of an away team, the developers decided to keep the "team" in "away team" and thought to give you a few buddies to help you out. Your team consists of: a gung-ho fanatic warrior (Rick Biessmann), a pacifist (Chell), a potential love interest (at least it seemed that way/ sniper (Telsia Murphy) and a few others that are forgettable. For the most part, the team is there to fill out positions that are needed. One person is good with computers, another with demolitions. Most of them play some vital role throughout the game. Fighters they are not. Your teammates were intentionally given toned down weapons. They do injure the enemy, but it is rare that they actually get a kill.

Sadistic me

Out of fun I tried shooting a crewman onboard Voyager while walking around. The result totally took me by surprise. No sooner had I completely vaporized him that tons of fellow crewmen started to beam into my region, promptly opening fire on me. I guess they didn't take my jovial nature to be much of a plus. I soon found myself in the brig; not to worry, the captain gave me a second chance. And a third chance…
