Take from the rich
If there was ever a game that truly captured the essence of atmosphere, Thief is it. Other games engross you in that you lose partial sense of what's going on around you in the real world. However, a lot of times that feeling is not truly immersion into the fantasy world; it's more of a deep concentration on the task at hand, like the feeling you get in the middle of a long Starcraft session. Thief brings immersion to a different plane, almost to a dream like state, with its compelling plot line, brilliant game play, and of course, the astonishingly good sound engine. When you fire up the game, you fully lose consciousness of yourself sitting in front of a monitor with a mouse in your hand. You're not playing a game so much as you are actually becoming Garrett the thief.

Don't go in front doors
If you want to get an idea of how deeply I became entranced in the game, come on by the offices and watch me play for a few minutes. It's almost laughable seeing the wacky things I'll do while playing Thief, because it's so easy to get into the game. Sometimes I cock my head sideways while playing, as if I'm trying to surreptitiously peer around the next corner. When I first ran into a Zombie on the second mission, I literally started up out of the chair as the zombie corpse rose up from the ground with an eerie moan. I lean so close to the monitor when I play this game, my optometrist would probably have a heart attack if he knew. OK, enough about my psychological disfunctions; what's this game about?

Zombies are hard to kill
What's the story?
The main character is an accomplished thief named Garrett. You work as an independent contractor, selling your skilled services to anyone who pays the right price. A master thief's tools of the trade include a bow, a sword, a blackjack, and most of all - your wits. In your initial mission you raid a local baron's estate for his prized jeweled scepter. You're supposed to pawn this item off to your friend Cutty, who often provides you with jobs. Unfortunately, during your first heist, Cutty was captured by religious zealots known as the Hammerites. You must break him out of jail in the second mission in order to get your money. From there on the story grows deeper and more sinister as the game progresses. It's your job to uncover some deep mysteries, and rip off some valuable items for yourself while you're at it!
