Update 9/2/99:

Infantry Doesn't Always Rule All

In the Tiberian Sun review I stated, with a little too much confidence, that infantry, especially GDI disc throwers, rule. While I got a lot of supporting emails from people who experienced the same rushing as I did, there were those who said that it's easily beaten. Unfortunately too many of these emails were hostile and near-fanatical in their support of TS. So, at first, I just took this (wrongly, I might add) as the backlash of people who didn't like seeing their favorite franchise get a bloodied nose. However, after a rather polite and intelligent post from one Lostcann (also his name on Westwood Online), I decided to give Tiberian Sun another shot, a bit earlier than I normally would have… boy, did he prove me wrong.

So What About Those Who Felt the Same as Me?

Well, actually, we're both right. You see, on small maps, infantry will still rule, especially if you are scouted early. On bigger maps, players have the time to construct defences. For NOD, this basically means a bat-out-of-hell rush for artillery while GDI has to construct disc throwers of their own, as well as building rocket propelled grenade (RPG) turrets. Having just titans and wolverines won't save you. You need strong defense against infantry rush - and that means plenty of disc throwers, good scouting to see if/when it's coming and you need to remember, that above all, once you defeat this rush, he's fodder for your high-tech units.

 Quick Fact
I've been having some pretty serious difficulties with Westwood Online. First, I couldn't register my nickname. Then I got booted out of two games, then, occasionally, I'll either get disconnected from Westwood during a game and start back in the menu after playing, or I'll not be able to type or click any icons. :( I think it might be my version, since I haven't heard much complaining about this… but if you've played TS and had the same problems, gimme a yell.
