Conclusion
Do you have the latest system? Are you simply out for a good time and don’t really care about demonstrating your skills? Out to kill some time or just have a quick match of Bombing Run? UT2K3 is the title for you. It’s undeniably a fun game, if you can run it. Yeah, all the hardcore players and pros might not be able to showcase their talents by going 100-0 in a public FFA server, but most of us aren’t hardcore and aren’t pros.
Four months down the road, after having played the game enough and gaining the skill, will you start to notice these gameplay drawbacks? Do you notice them already, or do you have the ‘minimum system requirements’ and find UT2K3 unplayable? In trying to be different from its predecessor, did the game unncessarily drop the Assault and Domination modes?
We have nothing against the folks at Digital Extremes, but they made some mistakes when desiging this product. Even compared to UT, it’s a little too friendly to the newbies, it performs poorly and it’s overpriced. That’s not to say it’s all bad. There are far worse games out there, and if it wasn’t for the performance and value, Unreal Tournament 2003 would be close to getting an 80. So if your system has the minerals, there should be nothing to stop you from enjoying a few good matches of Bombing Run or Team Deathmatch.
