The Wheel Turns

At E3 we had a chance to look at one of this year's most anticipated games, Legend Entertainment's Wheel of Time. Based on the Robert Jordan fantasy series of the same name, Wheel of Time is set in a fantasy world filled with powerful magic, dashing soldiers, and fantastical creatures of all kinds. Along with all that comes the strife and struggle between several powerful factions, including the Aes Sedai, (a band of powerful female magicians), the Forsaken (evil demi-gods), the Hound (a soulless man consumed with evil), and the Children of the Light (a cult of religious zealots).

Fans of the Robert Jordan novels are already familiar with these groups, but how does the game mesh with the books? In order to facilitate some design freedom, Legend set the game about 100 years prior to the books. This means that you won't be seeing many of the familiar characters in the books like Rand 'al Thor, Padan Fain, or Moiraine in the Wheel of Time game. WoT was originally billed as a role playing/first person/strategy game. How have things changed since the design spec was first announced?
