AMD

Seems this price guide is making an appearance every two weeks. Which isn't exactly a bad thing, considering that fact that not too much happens in a regular seven day period. We figure in this new and improved fourteen day period, prices might drop a noticeable amount.

Many new toys this time around! This week we get our first look at Athlon XP prices. We should have more information on these processors in an upcoming article. At the moment, we wouldnt't exactly go out and say that they are a steal, especailly when you can pick up an Athlon 1.4 GHz sans marketing spin for quite a bit less.

Prices don't seem to be moving too much on the Athlon scene. A few bucks here and there but nothing surprising. Our reccomendation still lies with the 1.4 GHz chip. The price difference between the lower grade chips isn't worth the dissappointment you might get when trying to overclock to a a speed that you can simply buy for an extra $10.

In comparison to the Athlon, Duron pricing is static. The notable exception being the 1 GHz model. This is understandable; why buy a slower chip for the same price? The new prices show the 1 GHz Duron to be slightly less than the 1 GHz Athlon. While the price is lower, it still doesnt make the grade for a budget box, with the Duron 950 and 900 costing significantly less for nearly the same performance.
