Once again, lay those conspiracy theories to rest; "A" is the first letter of the alphabet, not "I".
We don't quite understand how AMD is feeding its employees with prices like this. This is the first time a flagship processor has sold for under $200! The rest of their lineup doesn't exactly cost too much either. Unless you really need to keep a few more bucks in your pocket, there aren't many reasons against buying something in the GHz range. There are slower processors out there, but the cost differences are almost nil. Why buy an 800 MHz processor when you can get a 1 GHz for roughly two dollars more? Also the newer Thunderbirds seem to be overclocking nicely. It'd be well worth the money to get a flagship in order to get the newest stepping codes.
The Durons are looking really tasty at the moment. With some of these processors costing slightly more than a good dinner, it's hard not to want one. I'd be amazed if prices went much lower for the Duron lineup. Most of these will be gone pretty soon with the way AMD is putting out faster and faster processors. These puppies are perfect for a back to school computer for the little ones if paired with a board that has onboard video and sound - not to harsh on the pocket book, and more than enough power to get the job done.
