Short Interview
The KA7
Questions and answers
Abit's Bernard Lam was kind enough to answer a couple questions we had about the KA7. Our questions are in bold and Bernard's answers are in normal font.
FiringSquad: Can you tell us more about the Ultra DMA/100 support? Will there be different versions of the KA7 with and without UDMA/100, or will all the production boards feature UDMA/100?
There will be two version of the KA7, one is the original that you saw, and the other is the KA7 100, which has the Highpoint ATA100 chip on board.
FiringSquad: Can you tell us more about the motherboard's diagnostic LED?
Do you mean the debug card that we have? I actually have the DB20 debug card already, so you can come by and pick up one tomorrow. The card is actually a 2 digital reading meter that will show what kind of problem you have in your computer. It will come with four pin connector that will connect to the board.
How will the release of the KA7 affect Abit's relationship with Intel?
The KA7 won't affect our relationship with Intel. I think a lot of people have a misunderstanding that ABIT and Intel have some kind of special relationship and that's why we kept on delaying getting into the AMD market, but this time, we've proven it to all our users that ABIT is a full support motherboard manufacturer for the entire processor market which is what all our customers expect. We're still the King of Overclocking in the gamers market.
