ASUS has really nailed it with the P6T. While it may not have all the gee-whiz features found on the P6T Deluxe, nor the bling of the Rampage Extreme II, this board still delivers nicely for its class of X58 motherboards.
Just think, for $250 you’re getting an X58 motherboard that offers the expansion of six DIMMs plus the versatility of both SLI and CrossFire – both pricey features that used to sell for well north of $300 just 50 or so days ago – plus the board still offers some features that are also found on ASUS’ higher-end X58 boards. The P6T’s BIOS implementation for instance is very similar to the P6T Deluxe, while the integrated power and reset buttons are also backlit, making them fully functional power LEDs as well. The motherboard also features ASUS Express Gate, and its 8-phase power system was able to exceed our expectations when it came to OC’ing.
The P6T also supports 3-Way SLI, a feature the more expensive P6T Deluxe can’t claim.
Sure, you are giving up the dual Gigabit LAN ports, as well as SAS support, and the Express Gate feature isn’t flash-based, relying on your system’s HDD instead, but are these features the typical gamer will even use? The answer to that for most is definitely no.
If you can’t afford to splurge for a high-end X58 motherboard, you won’t be giving up much if you choose to opt for ASUS’ P6T motherboard. It’s a very good motherboard that boasts a solid feature set, good performance, and most importantly, an aggressive price tag. It isn’t the cheapest X58 motherboard on the market, but it is priced competitively considering its specs. The board basically straddles the line between the cheaper X58 motherboards with fewer DIMMs and lack SLI support, and the high-end X58 motherboards that throw in everything but the kitchen sink. Its got some compromises, but considering the overall package it’s one of the best values on the market right now.
