Hercules Terminator Beast

Where has S3 been during the 3D accelerator revolution? The once mighty company virtually disappeared from the graphics scene after 3dfx and nVidia showed the world that the anemic Virge 3D line belonged in no self-respecting computer . After missing two product cycles, the engineers over at S3 had to leap several generations with their comeback product, the brand new Savage3D accelerator. Combine S3 with video card manufacturer Hercules, the primary supporter of the marginal Voodoo Rush chipset, and you have two companies looking for redemption.

The Hercules Terminator Beast Supercharged is the newest member of Hercules' Terminator family. Based on the aforementioned Savage3D chip, the card offers features and performance comparable to the newest 3D accelerators such as the Rage128 and TNT. Keep in mind that there are two versions of the Terminator Beast - the normal Beast with SDRAM runs at 100 MHz, while the Supercharged SGRAM version clocks in at a much more appropriate 120 MHz. In comparison, TNT cards usually run at 90 or 100 MHz without any extra-curricular overclocking.
