Pentium II 400 Slot-1 42.1 fps

In Half-Life, a game both CPU and 3D intensive, the Celerons actually pull ahead of their older Pentium II sibling, coming out on top in both the 3DFX and Software mode tests. Based heavily off the Quake 1 engine, Half-Life is actually playable in software, and even at low resolutions manages to keep its intense visuals and effects.

Motocross Madness, an excellent Direct3D candidate, has an fps counter, but no timedemo utility. Tests were done by sitting in a corner of the Houston Supercross track while 8 computer opponents ran the course. Screen captures were taken every 30 seconds of the race, and averaged from those values afterwards. Again, there is no appreciable difference between the Pentium II and either of the Celeron 400 processors, making these new Intel offerings a godsend for the PC gamer.

 Quick Facts
I'm personally not a big fan of the Half-Life Blowout demo or the Quake II Crusher test, as neither are really representative of a real gameplay experience. I feel that there's a need for demos which don't necessarily focus on straining your system with unrealistic situations, but rather depict average gameplay, with some heavy fighting and some lulls in action.
