Analysis
The processor is a bit weak in today's competitive world, but should be sufficient for DVD playback due to the dedicated decoder card, and should be superb for Internet surfing. I would expect future shipping models to include faster AMD chips without an increase in price. The socket 7 platform also provides for great upgrade options with the K6-III being released. The memory can be upgraded, while the HD is generally sufficient.
The most striking drawback to the hardware is the psuedo-3D accelerator that is included, the ATI Rage II+. This chip is based on technology that was released before Direct3D was even created. Don't expect to be fragging any enemies with this computer. Again, I would expect an upgrade to this video card. Unfortunately for the end-user, though the machine is using a standard PCI Rage II card, upgrading will be difficult as the system uses a proprietary orientation of system connections in the back.
These connectors make it very simple to connect the machine to your home theater, included are a composite video output for both the system and DVD, and a dedicated SVHS output for the DVD. The audio jacks are RCA jacks, and not the mini-jacks that are often found on the back of most sound cards.
