Installation and Setup

Part 2

Ed: Welcome to the second of our two part Dreamcast review. If you missed part 1 from yesterday, you'll probably want to read that first before continuing on here.

Plugging in

The Dreamcast package comes with the console, one controller, a composite A/V cable, the power cord, a 50-foot phone cable, Internet access software, and a disc with seven playable demos. A VMU is not included nor is a full-version game.

Since the Dreamcast is a dedicated machine, installation is no different from a VCR. You just connect the three RCA plugs from the console into your television and plug it in. That's it. Upon your first boot, you'll enter a setup menu where you can set the internal clock and define your menu languages. If you haven't put in a disc, you'll be greeted with the following screen:

From here, you can choose to play a game, a music CD, or access your VMU.

The Demo Disc contains the following playable demos:

  • Sonic Adventure
  • Ready 2 Rumble
  • Monaco Grand Prix
  • Power Stone
  • House of the Dead 2
  • Flag to Flag
  • Sega Bass Fishing

The biggest fish I've caught in Sega Bass Fishing was 16 lbs. I've hooked a 17 pounder, but it got away.
