Ballistics Report
Pros
Performance: Whenever you’re dealing with a card based on the GeForce FX 5900 Ultra, you know it’s going to be a performer. Performance against ATI’s latest and greatest is really neck-and-neck, with each card winning its fair share of benchmarks. In the grand scheme of things, both cards are more than capable of handling all of today’s newest games, it’s performance with next generation titles that’s still up for debate.
Faster than Ultra: With its 500MHz core clock and 900MHz memory, the e-GeForce FX 5900 Ultra is currently the fastest GeForce FX 5900 Ultra card available on the market, making it the choice for the gamer who must have the most powerful GeForce FX 5900 Ultra card available.
Personally, we think it’s great to see a graphics card manufacturer taking a chance by offering overclocking out-of-the-box, as today’s graphics cards are all becoming too similar to each other. The e-GeForce FX 5900 Ultra stands out from the crowd, and gives the enthusiast the piece of mind of knowing he’ll get a card that’s guaranteed to operate at 500/900.
Price (among 5900 Ultra cards): Currently, prices for the e-GeForce FX 5900 Ultra are hovering in the $520-$550 range online. We know, this is a lot to pay for a graphics card, but among GeForce FX 5900 Ultra cards, this is practically a steal. For just a little over MSRP you’re getting VIVO with a decent software bundle, and, best of all, the fastest GeForce FX 5900 Ultra card out there thanks to the higher clock speeds. As more retailers receive their e-GeForce FX 5900 Ultra cards, competition will drive these prices even lower.
Support: While writing this review, we checked out eVGA’s technical support forums on their website, reading the thread dedicated to the e-GeForce FX 5900 Ultra specifically. We must say, eVGA has done a highly commendable job addressing the support needs of its customers in a timely fashion that’s professional and courteous. In fact, there are several posts from end user’s thanking eVGA for the excellent work of their support department.
With such dedicated assistance available to its customers, it’s no small wonder why eVGA has grown so rapidly.
Cons
Price: At $500+, the e-GeForce FX 5900 Ultra is by no means inexpensive. You can purchase a processor, motherboard, and memory before you touch the price of the e-GeForce FX 5900 Ultra!
Heat: This really shouldn’t be listed as a “con” per se, more like something you should keep in mind. Like all GeForce FX 5900 Ultra cards, the e-GeForce FX 5900 Ultra can get pretty hot under load, this is true of all of today’s high-end cards. We recommend that you ensure your case has adequate airflow for optimal reliability.
