Ballistics Report

Performance:

Expecting little going into the review, we were very pleasantly surprised by the handling of the Formula Force. It's harder to drive on ice, piloting a VW Bug is markedly different than being behind the wheel of a city bus, and playability doesn't suffer through any of this. This may well replace the Thrustmaster as our new test wheel of choice. The only real downside is the pedals.

Innovation:

Well, it's certainly not groundbreaking, but the I-FORCE system used in the wheel is enough for us to take notice. This new technology is a large improvement over the gears of yesteryear, so while the product itself is "just another" force feedback steering wheel, it was designed in a smart new fashion. We expect this system of steel cables to become quickly prevalent in force feedback devices (if it isn't already).

Installation and Drivers:

A piece of cake. As soon as the power and USB were in, Windows started looking for drivers, which were easy to find on Logitech's website. Probably easier found on the CD that came with the device, but we're wary of not using the most current drivers for any hardware. Also, the drivers provide a good amount of control over the handling of the wheel, especially with the inclusion of the vital center-stiffness option.

Price:

With an MSRP of $180 and street price of closer to $120, it's about the same as any other force feedback wheel will cost you. A bit pricey for a game controller, but well within the realm of reality. If you've got the cash and you don't already have a wheel or are looking for some force feedback action, this is a fine price to pay.
