Matrox Millennium G400 MAX

That's just the way it is

Looking at the current generation of video cards, it seems like the choice that manufacturers have gone with is to release various speed-rated cards for each the different chipsets. At least, this has been the trend as of yet. The Voodoo3 line has been broken down into 3 cards running at different speeds, and the TNT2 line has been broken down into 2 divisions as well. Hoping to cover a wider market segment, manufacturers are offering something for everybody. You've got a budget? Then get the more budget-conscious card. You've saved up for this card? Then get the high-end performance version.

It's baaaack….!

Matrox has similarly chosen to go on this route of releasing cards of varying speeds with their G400 chipset. We previously reviewed the Millennium G400 card here at FiringSquad. The next natural step, then, was to move on to the G400 MAX, which is what we're bringing before you now.

The G400 MAX is obviously based on the same G400 chipset as the "vanilla" G400. However, true to the game, it runs faster than the Millennium G400 vanilla. Matrox has been traditionally pretty secretive about the clock and memory speeds that the G400 core and memory run at, but we should be able to speculate about what they are. At the very least, we can see how the Millennium G400 MAX performs in our suite of benchmarks and games. Let's take a look!
