Millennium G400 MAX Specs
Secret clock speeds
As with their other products, Matrox is tight-lipped about the core and memory speeds of the Millennium G400 MAX. The memory is the easier to figure out of the two, because the nanosecond rating of the actual SGRAM chips. In this particular case, we see that the 32MB of SEC SGRAM are rated at 5ns, which is very fast. 5ns could put the memory clock at 200MHz, with a little higher room to spare. 200MHz is our speculation. The core clock speed is a tad harder to figure out.
Consider this: according to Matrox, the peak 3D fill rate of the Millennium G400 MAX is "in excess of 333 Mtexels/sec". Using the same method that Anand did, we can figure out the clock rate by analyzing this megatexel fill rate. Since all current generation video chipsets are able to render 2 textures in one pass (clock cycle), we can divide our peak fill rate by 2 to derive the clock frequency. At 333 Megatexels/sec, we get a clock speed of 166MHz, which seems very plausible.
RAM
The Millennium G400 MAX Is decked out with 32MB of SGRAM, configured as 4 chips on the front and 4 chips on the back. The SGRAM is manufactured by SEC, and is rated at a very speedy 5ns. This fast RAM should more than easily be able to handle the required throughput to speed benchmarks and games along.
