Final Verdict

Altec Lansing ADA-880R

72%

Were it not for the ADA-880R's quasi-2.1 speaker configuration, it would be an excellent speaker system. With a strong audio reproduction, high volume, hardware Dolby-Digital support, and excellent ergonomics, the ADA-880R should be a winner in theory. Unfortunately its 2.1 configuration is dated, and its output could be a little cleaner. If you only have a two-speaker sound card and still want Dolby Digital DVD support, the ADA-880R is a good, albeit expensive choice at $199.

DigiTheatre LC

80%

In terms of audio quality, the DigiTheatre LC truly excels. Musical reproduction is rich and crystal clear. The immersing 5.1 speaker setup and rock bottom $149 price make the DigiTheatre LC a very strong product. Unfortunately, it is the small things that hold the DigiTheatre LC back. Horrible controls, the need for a 5.1 speaker sound card, and a weak subwoofer all keep the LC from being a top product. Nonetheless, if you're looking for a bargain 5.1 speaker setup, the DigiTheatre LC is a great deal with excellent sound to boot.
