Ballistics Report
Pros:
Great SoundThe Nomad Jukebox provides superb audio quality and it even offers four-speaker output. As a dedicated MP3 device, it sounds better than any gaming sound card.
No intrusive SDMI
Unlike some MP3 players such as the Sony Memory Stick Walkman, the Nomad Jukebox allows you to transfer files back and forth freely. If licensed music actually catches on, the Nomad Jukebox is ready to handle these formats.
Large Storage Capacity
If you've ever wanted to carry a lot of MP3s, WMAs, and WAVs with you, the Nomad Jukebox succeeds wonderfully. With the aftermarket upgrades taking the unit to 20 and 30GB, you'll be hard-pressed to find another brand-name MP3 player with as much capacity. The latest firmware allows the Nomad Jukebox to store data files, and so the Nomad Jukebox essentially acts as a portable USB drive.
Multi-format
While most people will be using MP3s, the Nomad Jukebox is capable of playing WMA files and uncompressed WAVs
Cons
Expensive The Nomad Jukebox itself is expensive, and the aftermarket upgrades add even more. No matter how you look at it, the Nomad Jukebox is a premium up-market MP3 player.
Poor interface
The Nomad Jukebox isn't a computer, it's a portable music player. MP3 players should be easy and effortless to use. The sluggish response is also frustrating at times.
Mediocre Recording
Although we did not go into this feature in the article, the Nomad Jukebox only offers ADPCM WAV recording. It would have been nicer if the unit offered the ability to record directly to MP3.
