Installation and Setup

Setting it all up

Some people are just all thumbs when it comes to setting up electronic equipment, these are the people that still have "12:00" blinking on their VCR's. No one reading this is in that class, although you may know someone who qualifies. With the Klipsch ProMedia v.2-400's, even those people could be experiencing incredibly immersive sound in very short time.

There are two inputs for the Klipsch ProMedias, both analog, one for the front speakers and the other for the rear speakers. Connections are made through standard mini-jacks, not gold plated, these connections all feed into one of the front satellites before going into the subwoofer through a custom multi-pin DIN cable. Gold plated connections and larger gauge connection wires would have been nice, although at this price range it would have been unexpected. Also, the mini-jack connections are a bit restrictive for using the ProMedia system outside of the multimedia arena. For most computer speakers, you wouldn't want to use them elsewhere, but these can hold their own in the home theater arena as well.

Once the connections to the computer sound card are made, you then need to connect the control satellite, with all the volume controls to the subwoofer, where the amplifier is housed. Here comes the trickiest part, you then need to connect cables from the subwoofer to all the satellites, including the control satellite, and that's about it.

The control satellite has volume controls for the subwoofer, front, and rear speakers. Klipsch has thankfully included a little mark indicating the optimum subwoofer volume. Trust me, you will soon tire of the loose and boomy bass that comes from mismatched subs and sats.

Placing the satellites is simplified because they are shielded, although the subwoofer is not.
