Valve Particle Simulation Benchmark

Both Cinebench 10 and Valve’s particle simulation benchmark scaled quite well once the Core 2 Quad Q6600 was overclocked. Cinebench performance improved by 25% while the Valve test ran 27% faster on the overclocked system.

We shaved 41 seconds off our MP3 encoding time thanks to the 3.3GHz overclocked system. Our video encoding tests weren’t quite as dramatic however, as the overclock only saved us 13 seconds. Looking back at our Core 2 Extreme QX9650 article though, we see that the same procedure took one minute and five seconds with the QX9650 and Intel’s DDR3 Bearlake platform. Considering that our SLI system is running with a significantly cheaper CPU and less expensive DDR2 memory, our 1:06 result isn’t too shabby.
