Mouseware
Driver Perks
The Wingman Mouse will ship with Mouseware 8.40. This software includes all the usual programmability for each of the buttons. The "new" thing is that Mouseware 8.40 includes a PS/2 rate utility. This will mark the first set of mouse drivers that include such a utility. What PS/2 rate allows you to do is increase the sampling rate of your PS/2 port, leading to smoother mouse movement and more accurate aim and accuracy. After all, nothing's worse than missing a rail or a Psi Storm because you had a jumpy mouse! The rate is set in the driver software via a slider bar - that was kind of disappointing to me. I would have preferred to have the option of setting any rate that I wanted, between 1-200Hz, rather than the bar which lets you set 40 (normal PS/2 sampling rate),60,80, 100, and 200Hz.

Mouseware 8.40 - notice the PS/2 rate slider bar?
But I already use PS/2 rate!
We should mention that many gamers already use a free PS/2 rate utility to boost their mouse sampling rate. It works great, although a small percentage of users complain that the utility introduces strange problems with their mouse motion. Theoretically, the fact that Logitech is integrating the PS/2 rate utility into their drivers should stamp out any potential hardware conflicts. Of course, all this is only significant if you choose to use the Wingman Mouse as a PS/2 mouse. If you plug it into your USB port, you'll enjoy a silky smooth sampling rate of 100+Hz without having to worry about driver settings.
