How to Overclock Guide (2 comments ) by: SuperCharge (4) | Posted in cluster AMD Contest Group Posted 48 months ago ( edited 48 months ago ) in category DEFAULT With the Phenom II Black Edition processor, I think the main areas of performance tend to be:
The Processor Speed
The Northbridge Speed
The Memory Clock and Memory Timings
And, in addition another area, which might make a smaller performance difference... the HTT
I find it best to experiment, but I myself usually end up going with what is simple. Such as focusing on increasing the clock speed of the processor.
Think of it like taming a beast... it might be eating the same food all the time but maybe it does like another food better. In the same way, maybe something else such as bumping up the Northbridge multiplier a little will cause more performance than just a slight increase in processor MHz.
Many people will probably think about just increasing the HTT if they plan on playing around with tweaking, but what about decreasing it for a different memory ratio (if your motherboard allows it)? Also you can probably drop the multiplier on the HTT too if you really want to, assuming your motherboard allows.
I'd recommend testing a few programs to see if dropping or increasing the HTT, or other things, makes much difference to performance. Test, test, test... to see what is best for your system, to excite the beast. |
