My Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R in its natural habitat.

In August, after months of learning about the intricacies or modern personal computers, I decided that it was time to put together my own system. To get things rolling, I started a thread in the FiringSquad forums and, with plenty of helpful suggestions, chose all of the components I needed to order for what was to be a powerful, $2,000 gaming machine. My choice of motherboard was clear... the Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R was way ahead of the pack in its price range. This motherboard has since shown itself to be an efficient and reliable piece of hardware.

Once I had my computer built, it was time to leap into the realm of overclocking! With a little help from the FiringSquad forums crew, I got my processor, my video card, and my memory up to very high clock speeds... and eventually, complete system stability. Oh, I had a few troubles along the way... my Patriot memory was finicky with voltages, I hadn't placed my Scythe processor cooler quite right, my GTX 280 ran much toastier than it was supposed to... but everything worked out in the end, thanks in great part to the GA-EP45-DS3R. The BIOS's extensive features and easy navigability, combined with the board's overclocking potential and stability, helped to make my PC a real speed demon, obliterating even the likes of Crysis!

Gigabyte motherboards are the best choice for any system, not just mine... just take a look at AnandTech's latest Holiday Motherboard Guide, where seven currently available Gigabyte boards are recommended - more than any other brand!

Oh, and one last point: the unique blue colour of Gigabyte motherboards is a really nice touch. There's just too much green and red out there in the motherboard marketplace. ;)
