Crank that S#!t up with NVIDIA!

Explanation of the video -- I created a concept of a graphics galvanometer that lets you crank the graphics up/down on a system. This video basically demonstrates the working of this imaginary device and what happens when you "Crank it up" to the highest level of graphics/performance.

Note that with GeForce you can not only support better games, but also improve the processing time using the GPU (using CUDA), like some of the simulations I have included in this video. PhysX, 3D, Surround Gaming, etc are mostly related to gaming, but we should not forget technologies like SLi, CUDA, Optimus, etc that are Proprietary to NVIDIA and nobody does them better. In some cases, nobody else does them at all, like 3D and Optimus :). I have tried to make this point as well by enumerating these technologies within the video and showing clips that depict them. So when you crank it up to NVIDIA, games are not the only thing that improve!!

Credits and description of content -- The video includes the demo clips of some proprietary technologies like Eyefinity from ATi (Crysis Demo shown in ATi section), NVIDIA's 3D vision, surround gaming, Cuda related applications (hair rendering demo), PhysX demo (rocketsled), Batman:Arkham Asylum (improved with PhysX), and some hollywood and sports related usages of the graphics cards by NVIDIA - NASCAR (not sure what the technology is called, but being able to point out the cars and the drivers while the race is on using the message balloons), Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, James Cameron's Avatar, and the rendered fire in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. The music is by Ratatat. The video clips that were "borrowed" from other people on youtube have been credited at the end of the video. The logos of the companies are their property and I would like to credit them for that.

This video took me 2 weeks to make and a ton of research looking for clips and learning to use the basic video editing tools such as iMovie and Windows Movie Maker. I don't currently own a desktop, but I have a macbook and a pc laptop which I used to create this video. I am hoping for the prize to be my first desktop. :P

This video is available in a higher definition format on youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wvia4RRJ88E

Thanks!

It was all right for a game montage, but not original to every other submission here!

Thank you for commenting and for the honest expression. In my defense, it is hard (if not impossible) to talk about how to improve something using NVIDIA and not have game clips in the video, because that's how normal people perceive NVIDIA as a company. I have tried, though, to include other technologies such as CUDA and PhysX demos and Hollywood clips to "mitigate" the game montage nature of the video and to emphasize considerably on the non-gaming side of NVIDIA GPUs. If you have any suggestions, I'm wide open to receiving them. Please do let me know. Thanks!

I fully understand that point and feel it myself too. I had another concept myself, which I unfortunately am not able to do... but it's a bit hard to do much else.
There are things that could be done, but I don't think it should be held against us. The content of a montage can be just as creative as something else.

Maybe overall, the contest may be lacking variety, but the individual submissions do show different messages and I like some of them, including yours ;)

Can't believe that I didn't comment on this one. Thought for sure I had :(
Actually like the basic idea of the vid a lot.

edit: Darnet, edited too much. Was commenting on GoW3 and Halo, but nevermind that... xbox uses ati, and PS3 nvidia graphics, right?

Wasn't sure. I'm just a casual console player. Dunno much about their specs tbh.

Yup, that is correct. Earlier, I had them switched. I updated the video and now GOW3 (PS3) is in the Nvidia sequence and Halo (XBOX) is in the ATi sequence. :)

The reason I tried to include PC, Console and non gaming (CUDA/PhysX simulations, Hollywood movies, etc) clips was to kind of convey the point that NVIDIA doesn't get used in just PC Games as is the widespread opinion.

Thanks for the comment!

Good point... and so I wasn't mistaken that something was naggin at me. That's relief. Must have seen the vid when it was the other way around. Great you fixed it

Nice video and good concept, this is actually what first popped in my mind when I thought about this contest. The idea of a 'knob' that you can crank the sh#t out of...

My only suggestions for improvement would be a better transition from the galvanometer to the videos.

Thank you very much for the suggestion. I wanted to improve my transitions, etc, but I noticed that iMovie is pretty restrictive in nature for such things. In fact, I had so much trouble with iMovie and the logos, that I ended up doing the picture transitions with the different NVIDIA technologies using Windows Movie Maker. I wish I would have used Adobe Premier or something a little more professional. Rookie mistake I guess. I'll try and explore this a little more to see if I can add some sort of transitions using iMovie. Thanks again! :)

Nice job with reediting the video. As for the Adobe Premiere - this editor is pretty complicated for me. I've spent more than a half an hour to find and apply transitions to the video but, hey, when you have problems - use tutorials.

Sorry, it must look like I have 2 last names. rajat.chatin is just an id that stuck with me (one of those mistakes you carry on forever :)). My name is Rajat Agarwal (evident from my id - rajatagarwal, for the video), but I seem to be have troubles accessing that id from my work computer (probably because I'm permanently signed in at home with the original account), which is why I created this account.
