I would hate to compete against Intel in the CPU business. Having said that, there may be an up and coming silicon company in China that could compete with Intel. Got knows, they will challenge US product supremacy across the board in the next 50 years.
Well, back when the whole AMD-ATI merger was announced, I predicted that NVIDIA would get into CPUs eventually. Out of stubborness I'll stick with that prediction. It's an awfully expensive marketplace to enter though, so if NVIDIA were to do it, they'd need a partner.
Sony/Toshiba and IBM would be the perfect partners for NVIDIA imo.
You're right, if anybody could compete against Intel and AMD it would be a Chinese company with the vast engineering human resources of China behind them. VIA already has facilities in China-perhaps they'll go the way of Hon Hai precision (Foxconn's parent) and move everything over there eventually.
They do. And they would be a good partner for one of the huge Chinese conglomerates in my opinion. They have managed to scrape our a low power market that is doing well for them.
» DX10 On another note, I should also mention after all this BioShock madness is over I'm going to revisit Lost Planet DX10. Capcom has added several enhancements to the DX10 code with the latest patch and I've been told that not only is IQ up, so is performance.
I'm hoping for good things, AMD and ATI have some really sweet products in the pipeline coming out in the next 3 months in the short term.
I'm still not convinced the merger was a good thing for the industry as a whole though. Back when the deal was announced I asked them why they just didn't take a stake in ATI, I still think that would have been the wiser strategy.
