There are actually a lot of adventure games that are out there; The Adventure Company publishes a lot of them in the US and CDV publishes some. The Sam and Max titles from Telltale are actually pretty good. However the adventure genre is not a favorite of mine and most major publishers stay away from them as a rule.

Are there any adventure games in development, like Space Quest? Those were always my favorite games when I was growing up. Under a Killing Moon is the last game that I remember like that, and that was over 10 years ago.

Yeah, I don't think there is a market for games like that nowadays, when it was one of the MAJOR genres 10-12 years back. I grew up on sam & max, space quest, king's quest, hero's quest also, and I even loved the ability to type in those games as well... oh the good old days.

Now it's all 3D FPS this, and RTS that...

Sierra made their living off of those games back in the day. Back then, they were generally considered the only games worth playing. I bet that a well produced action game would do well now, just because it would be different from the monotony of mainstream games out now. Plus nostalgia would help it gain some sales.

I went back and played SQ4 again recently. I tried to do the same with Under a Killing Moon, but that game doesn't run too well with DOS emulation. I would love to see another game of that caliber get released. I am tired of FPS games, and they usually bore me to death now. I like some RTS games, but they seem a little too balanced most of the time, which kind of kills the suspension that someone can sneak in and start destroying your base or something like in the original C&C. I would love to play a new Wing Commander game. That is a genre that hasn't had much play recently, and probably would do pretty well as a change-up to the FPS and RTS games.

I would say that Mech Warrior 2 was great. Mech Warrior 1 was kind of ok. It was a top down view - 2d game, and it didn't really follow the Battletech game very well. It kind of reminded me of the Shadowrun game for the Nintendo. It was kind of fun, but it wasn't a great game by any means. Mech Warrior 2 was really cool though, and I loved the controls in the game. Mercenaries was a much better game, in my oppinion, because it had a better story line, and you actually salvaged mechs and equipment which brought you further into the game.

Yes, Wing Commander / Privateer / Xwing type games were awesome. Man, that really does bring back memories. Even the first few mechwarriors were great.

Again the game is still a long way in development so it's too early to pass judgement

I don't know that much about the game yet to really give even a semi-educated opinion yet. All I know is that the folks at Gearbox Software are talented folks and that Borderlands doesn't sound it will be another cookie cutter title which is always welcome.

It's supposed to have over 500,000 weapons and armor! Seems pretty crazy if you ask me. They want to make it so that you'll never run into the same weapon twice. I didn't know your opinion on this, mine is that it's going to make weapons in games even more boring for the fact that a computer is just throwing specs together left and right. I know WoW does this, but that's also the feeling that you have after playing for a while.
