| That theory sounds all well and good but why do they also collect "application software"? Besides, gamers are almost always at the upper end of the average PC quality and hardware purchases are spurred forward by software anyway so the idea that they will (or should) reduce the hardware requirements based upon current collected hardware data is faulty at best.
If they genuinely need/want to know this info then they could offer the player an in game benefit to volunteer this info rather than take it without regard to a person's right to privacy. Even a "bad thing" can be justified with at least one theoretical benefit and you pointed to that here but even in the best case scenario where the info is only used for "good", they still set a bad precedent for requiring you to divulge your info to use a product and moreover, you have to actually read the EULA to be informed of it. | | IMO, if they don't release the game for your OS and you can find a way to run it then you deserve it for free. I'm generally against pirating but in this case, I support the pirates and anyone else who can get it to run on any other OS other than the one for which it was released. Ingenuity deserves it's own rewards. OTOH, those who use Vista should be punished for pirating this game ... and for being ignorant sheep. :) Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Yeah, unfortunately greed begets greed and once these corporations get a taste of power and dominance they abuse it to all hell. This is why competive business laws are so important although unfortunately they aren't strongly enforced. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | LOL. That's it in a nutshell...opinions differ! Censorship is one person forcing their opinion on another when there is no discernible victim and I not only don't see a link between games and psychosis but there is an argument for games being a safe virtual outlet for deranged mentalities that might otherwise perpetrate in reality. Thus, I fail to see the benefit here on any level. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I don't understand why they can't/don't release multiple versions of these games like they do with music or when they convert a movie to TV acceptable standards! It can't be very expensive or time consuming to simply "censorize" a version for general retail shelves or as an alternative option they could simply sell an upgrade for to the AO version that would have some sort of age verification system. This way they wouldn't have to sacrifice sales at the expense of interesting/realistic content.
I can't see the ESRB having a legal ground to stand on in forcing an AO rating on a censored version just because it also exists in an Adult Only version. I just don't see the Either-OR case here...why not both? Where's the FREEDOM of choice? Flag this | Edit this post |

| How many DX10 games have you played? and then tell me how much better the graphics were? None and not!
Enjoy your daily raping but don't try and bs me that there is any benefit to it or that I should join your club of "MS sheep" just because it makes you feel "current". I don't follow the crowds, I follow logic and sense and you can't provide a sensible reason for upgrading to the failed promises of MS Vista.
BTW, Vista is like anal sex in that a few of you will like it but myself as well as most people don't need to try it to know it's not for us. Enjoy your paid-for reaming but I'll stick to the lesser of two evils...XP! Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Well, that settles it. It's the most incredible operating system ever and everyone should pay for the upgrade and dismiss the hoards of reports of problems and deep OS encoded DRM restrictions along with other nefarious MS code bits to control THEIR OS along with losing the ability to run legacy applications. I've got a wild lion for a pet and it hasn't killed me yet so I guess that is a recommendation for all to go get one. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Wha..wha...what? "Indeed faster than XP" but "slower in games"? Nice contradiction or are you saying it boots faster by a "percieved" few milliseconds which is the dumbest reason ever for spending a hundred plus dollars for an upgrade and a stupid reason to recommend it over XP when the actual applications that you run are slower. | Simply that it has been proven that CO2 levels have been the cause of global warming in the past so unless you can point to some other factor that is contributing to this current increase other than obvious human industrial activities then it is prudent to assume that our activities are causing this rapid change.
Previously, it may have been caused by massive earthquakes or volcanoes that adjusted the atmospheric level of CO2 but discounting the earthwide (not just US) effects of billions of humans on the climate is ignorant. The fact that nearly all these humans burn fuels and use ozone destroying compounds that are ignorantly released into the atmosphere like freon along with the destruction of forests that help balance/convert the CO2 levels is a pretty simple and logical argument.
Try this analogy. If I hit you in the head while you were asleep and you woke up with big bump does that mean that I couldn't have caused it because you fell out of bed before and bumped your head? It's like a mutual fund...past performance is not indicative of current and future results! Flag this | Edit this post |

| Jeez...all the negativity when this is a positive news item. #1 It's in Beta and #2 They're actually TESTING it before release unlike some big game producing company that I won't name.
Let's hope it's been worth the wait and that they won't have to take time fixing too many things! Flag this | Edit this post |

| You have no point and are making a strawman argument. Just because the climate has changed before doesn't mean that humans aren't affecting the earth's climate now in a (humanity) destructive way. If you think that flooding the earth with human produced carbon dioxide while clear cutting all the forests and paving over nature isn't having an effect on nature's ability to deal with the increase of CO2 in addition to the natural occurrences then you are one very myopic person.
Your rant reminds me of Morton Downey Jr who harrassed people who said smoking causes cancer and then cried like a baby when he found out he was going to die from it.
Frankly, I believe the logical argument but I don't really care because I'm not having children so I'm not concerned about a future water-world or whether any intellectually blind right wingers believe the hypothesis until it is too late...which it likely is anyway. Hope your children read the Noah's Arc part of the Bible thoroughly! Flag this | Edit this post |

| Great...we all know racing planes is a popular past time sport (sarcasm). Just work on making it as realistic as it can be and you'll get more sales. I don't know how many time consuming downloads/installations/upgrades I've done to get FS2004 as realistic as possible with fixes for terrain textures and meshes for terrain accuracy along with airport recreations. If they can assure me that FSX can beat all the secondary offerings I got to recreate their failed attempt at accuracy with 2004 then I would be willing to upgrade. If I just wanted to fly for flying sake, I could do that in almost any of the flying "games" but in a "flight simulator" I want reality simulated as accurately as possible. Thanks though MS as I can't wait for the exciting Cessna race upgrade...sounds thrilling especially if you include "Scotty" as my co-pilot who says things like, "Captain, I can't give her no more...she's gonna blow". Ugggh!
PS. I'm sick of all this "DX10" marketing BS...put up or shut up! There isn't anything available yet to substantiate these constant claims of video glory...wonder why? Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Exactly which makes me angry when companies like Creative build in preventable installs on their drivers for W2K when it's completely compatible with XP. My guess is MS pressure to force unnecessary upgrades as they could allow it and just acknowledge no support for it. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | They haven't squandered anything. Vista is not a big hit and thus it isn't going to effect their products or profits in any manner. Microsoft has made Vista driver development a nightmare and this is the reason for slow development. You wanted the brand new shiny OS so you need to deal with the unavoidable new product headaches without whining. This is Vista's problem and those who refused it are doing fine.
