| | Does it really matter anyway? With all the fuss over GTA:SA, they can't/won't produce an "edgy" game that is associated with Duke Nukem for fear of all the controversy that inevitably arises these days with the conservative movement. If I can't get the DN that I expect, I would rather not even see a generic edition release. Besides, if Prey is a sample of their efforts then no big loss IMO. The years of failed development prove that they realize the difficulty in matching the gameplay/feel of the original. Hail to the King baby. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I bet these numbers are simply the overinflated "published" prices of the OS that will be used only in calculating their bogus "loss" numbers due to pirating. You know they'll have to sell it cheaper since these prices will even turn off the few fanbois that want to "upgrade" to this resource intensive OS. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Wait until Crysis is finished if you must as I don't want to deal with another rushed to market title just so EA can pad their WallStreet financials while we're left with having to deal with hoards of terrible patches that are rushed out like in BF2. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | If they simply sell it at cost then it would be enough to say that it isn't included software otherwise a regular free "mod" from the original makers might make it seem as though it's part of the same game. This idea could also entice other players into the mod business like Playboy who did a tantalizing mod for Duke3D which IMO made the game better. I would gladly pay $5-$10 extra for a good "AO" mod for some of my games. This is simply a novel way of preventing a developer from having to shut out a huge revenue stream of young game players to create a movie-like quality game that includes mature themes. | | I don't understand why these companies don't just sell a cheap mod to add/modify the content for adult gamers. It's the only way to keep the original game rated for the children and it could be an extra source of revenue and wouldn't limit the content that adult gamers should be permitted to enjoy just as they do in movies. | | If they can get a gaming company to make an engine/game that showcases the card's full abilities and the game get's high reviews, it will have a chance at success just like Creative's X-Fi cards (for BF2) that were once considered too expensive. As of now, it's simply an expensive minor game enhancement. I also wonder whether the PCI bus is sufficient to bring the features of this card to life. Maybe integrating it with the vid card would be the best solution as motherboards don't seem to come with that many slots anymore either. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Bad movies with big stars are generally over-promoted to get as many people (suckers) into the theatres before the reviews and word of mouth about how bad it is gets around. Of course, the entire premise of this movie was just lame-ass from the start. Samuel Jackson must of lost a bet or owed someone big time to harm his "body of work" with this B movie that doesn't have the T n'A to make it watchable. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I think the reason that they are able to cross this line now is for the very reason that Intel is back to the performance leader. Those two have been so cozy together and probably had mutual support deals to protect each other's domination of their markets. Now that Dell is losing ground to competitors and Intel is comfortably in the performance seat, there is no reason to continue this particular arangement anymore. Dell needs the expanded product line and Intel is not afraid of losing major market share anymore. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Sweet! Let's hope this becomes a trend or at least forces more thorough Linux driver support as this is a big deciding factor for a lot of people on which card company to choose [especially with DX10 making the cards near performance clones of one another]. Of course with Creative having no real competition in the soundcard space, I'm not sure what danger it imposes on them to open source their drivers especially since it would enable them to sell more cards to non-Windows users. | | It's the fact that there aren't yet any chipsets available that support both SLI and C2D yet so they can't make a motherboard with that configuration thus "No SLI for C2D". Nvidia is working on nforce 500 chipset for Intel and I'm also sure that Intel is working on adding SLI to their chipset especially since AMD merged with ATI. Though, until one gets released, you're stuck with choosing single Nvidia GPU or waiting for the chipset release and then waiting for a motherboard manufacturer to make and release the motherboard OR you can choose to use ATI's Crossfire which is ironically available in the intel chipset. | | It sucks that the C2D doesn't support SLI yet so I'm not sure I want a better CPU at the expense of a multi Nvidia GPU limitation. Of course, if AMD demands better Linux drivers from ATI then I would be willing to go that route to support the underdog and competition in the industry [while saving a few dollars]. The conundrum of unanswered questions and unavailable products make it a difficult decision at the moment. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Yep. This sucks now because I can't stand what I've got any longer and can't get what I want yet [for availability reasons]. It's one of those hurry up and wait scenarios. Have to continue browsing the discount game racks for less demanding titles until the planets align so to speak. Vista not being one of those planets though. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Wrong Gundam According to the companies info release, Crysis is a fully DX9 game. They will later add some DX10 "extras" but all that eye candy goodness is created with DX9 technology. There is no DX9 "mode" but there may be a DX10 native mode later. What makes you think that what they are showing in the video is from DX10 emulation mode? DX10 will be nothing but minor add-on technology until it becomes more prolific on the consumer side so don't assume just because it looks good that it is DX10 tech. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Surprise, surprise...It's the only major game that hasn't announced it's delay until next year for assured quality. Is it because it is simply a mod with the same engine being sold as a new game or because they want those holiday dollars again this year regardless of it's readiness? Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I think they're all learning a lesson about BF2's mistake of an early release to get holiday sales. Ironically enough, I haven't heard about any delay in BF2142. I guess they'll never learn or just don't care. Though, the patches for BF2 make it seem like the latter. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Dream on fanboi. You'll be obsolete when you're playing online and hiding in "extra" grass that isn't displayed on DX9 cards.
The value of DX10 will remain very limited unless M$ adds it to XP or by some miracle, the masses upgrade like sheep to Vista which will only be likely if M$ does an under $50 upgrade offer. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I agree that piracy could easily be killed by proper pricing but greedy Wall Street companies are always looking for "growing" profits rather than good profits. This means "squeezing" something the next time around which means less game and/or ever growing prices. So, I usually wait for the game to turn commodity before I buy it.
OTOH, I've seen some video of the new game Crysis and it supposedly is only 10-12 hours of gameplay (although with good replay value) but the quality is amazing. For this, I am willing to shell out a premium for a revolutionary new release and not feel "ripped off". My point is that revolutionary high quality products deserve premium pricing. In this case though, I don't see anything revolutionary about a new episode of HL so I agree that it does seem overpriced for a Steam download. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I feel the same about big non-caring corporate profit leeches which is why I'll buy Red Orchestra since these types of independent teams seem to put more heart and effort into their work when they take the risk of failure or success on their own backs. Flag this | Edit this post |
