| The sound is not used for when someone's ringing but alert of having recieved a text message. It's like the 21st century equivalent of passing notes around.
Some kids, and adults as well, send a lot of those. The last figure I saw for Denmark was 1 billion messages a year or 200 messages per person on average and I bet the kids and teens do most of them. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Good article and man do I hope gaming never becomes mainstream! I know for some people it would be nice if the rest of the world gets gaming but I for one don't really hope it will happend. Why?
Because the more a mainstream, polished, big money industry gaming becomes the more crappy games become. The effect is all ready here where games have become such a money driven thing that the love has gone. It's virtualy for any one man, or a small team for that matter, to make a game since it just drowns in all the BS.
Less and less games are driven by innovation and real content as it's more and more about the latest graphics. And while this very nice it's really not what gaming should be about. It's to be about fun and not about market shares :-(
Looked what happend to Deus Ex 2 or Halo 2 for that matter. The first game in the series was like a slightly flawed diamond and the next was perfect on it's surface only to be discovered having been made artificially with big $$$ in the eyes of thoose exec and ceo's calling the shoots. | | Let me guess - you bought the whole "The PS3 will replace the PC" spin. If you did then you need to do some reading because all Sony said was that they did not need a PC to compete with Microsoft's "XBOX Live anywhere" concept. Flag this | Edit this post |

| You are mistaken!
Once again. What he said was that SONY does not need the PC to compete with the "XBOX Live anywhere" scheme. And he said that the PS3 can fullfill peoples entertainment needs including web browsing - there is a big difference between saying so and saying the PS3 will replace the PC.
FFS people at least use babelfish or something. Flag this | Edit this post |

| *sigh* I can't belive all the silly comments from people which obviously haven't read the article.
Like I just stated SONY have said nothing about replacing the PC but in fact the PS3 could be a rather interesting machine for many things. Hopefully there will a BOINC client for it :-) Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Another PS3 bashing headline by FS :-( Come on FS this is starting to look silly. The headline and the blurb is taken totally out of context.
Here is a rough translation (german is my second language and english my third, so don't mock me)
Harrison (The Sony guy) is asked if SONY is worried that they don't have the PC platform with reference to the XBOX Live anywhere marketing scheme by Microsoft. And then he essentialy replies that the PS3 is a computer, and that it will bring all the entertaiment functions people want (gaming, movies, net browsing...). And that they didn't need the PC.
Nowhere in the interview does Harrison say anything about the PS3 replacing the PC!
So come on FS FFS! Stop blowing things up if you keep it up this place will end up like TheEnquirer :-( Flag this | Edit this post |

| » FS - you forgot to ask why the price is higher on Steam! To me this interview reads more like PR or at least it's far away from asking any difficult questions.
I for one would be interested in knowing why we as consumers should by through Steam when it not cheaper and in some cases even more expensive than buying in a shop. To me it seems like a lot of people has jumped on a wagon just to try buying on-line content with no real advantages to anyone but the seller :-( Flag this | Edit this post |

| LOL - the US gas prices are still half of what they are here in europe. If only US cars weren't gas guzzlers then it would not even be a issue.
But of coure since we get much better mileage then the rise in gas prizes means less for us. But we have seen nothing yet with regards to gas prizes - expect oil to double in price within 5 to 10 years! Flag this | Edit this post |

| Considering the profit when they sell downloads on Steam must be very close to 100% of the $19.95 and the profit they make on normal retail is something between $5 and $10 at the most then you should feel ripped off.
I just shows very clearly that valve is not into sharing the cost advantage of Steam with it's customers.
Personally the whole Steam thing has made me boycot their games. Ever since I bought HL2, in a shop, and experinced a single player game I could not play because some crap server was down. Not to mention the hassel it would be if I wanted to sell the game 2nd hand :-( Flag this | Edit this post |
