| I can see where the table top die hards might have a problem with a desire for squads, but I'm pretty sure newer MMOs have been working on "hireling" mechanics, so it's possible.
Another work around would be that groups must be made of the same "faction", ie all Space Marines, all Eldar, all Orcs, etc. We don't know what the class system is going to be yet, but all of these groups are technically self-sufficient. They all have healers, psychers, melee, and ranged units.
Plus, if you are a stickler for for the background material, there is no way you could mix groups anyway. "Bad" factions like Orcs, Chaos, and Tyranids would never work together; and even "good" factions like Space Marines, Imperial Guard, or Sisters of Battle rarely work together. Then you have the Eldar and Dark Eldar who only hate each other more than all of the other groups.
My feeling is this is going to be THE hurdle for the game.
I'm a little disappointed in the graphics used in the trailer. They have a very WoW look to them. I was hoping for something more cutting edge, dark, and less anime-styled. Flag this | Edit this post |

| MS is in a tough spot. Standard DVD is too small and Blu-Ray would be giving money away on a product with a razor thin margin to begin with.
On the other hand, by sticking do a "dead" format, it would protect XBox disks a little because the majority of the world wouldn't have the experience or technology to pirate their disks.
Of course they could use Laser Disks for all I care; I'm never buying an MS console. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | The difference is I'm not going to buy my 10 year old kid an iPhone. They'll break it, or loose it, or become a self centered douche bag. (Yes I believe any "i" product is a gateway product that leads to douche baggery) After all, no one of working age should be screwing around with these little portable game thingies, right? RIGHT?! | Let's look at some facts behind Brandon Bell's statement that "With games like Crysis, CoD 4, and WoW all selling well on the PC, I'm still not convinced that piracy is as rampant as these industry executives would have you believe."
All three of the games he just named is almost a year old or older. This is sad commentary on the state of the PC gamming world when there hasn't been anything really new out in months. When something does come out (as Peter Molyneux commented on here in an article a few months ago) one of the big goliaths crush it.
Next, all three, are geared to be played online, WoW being online only, and this allows the developers embed code that allows their servers to check if your copy is genuine or not. Not all games are designed to be used online, which makes anti-piracy measures more difficult.
Finally there's the tone of the statement as a whole that the writer seems unconvinced that piracy is a real threat to PC game developers. 1.) He doesn't have their accounting balance sheets, so what does he know? 2.) What something is worth isn't your choice to make; it is the intellectual property of the designer. They decide what it's worth. 3.) For the most part PC games have been the same price for almost 20 years! $50 has been the average since I was a kid buying games for my Apple IIc! Development costs have gone up by leaps and bounds since the mid-80s, and while a larger market to sell to helps off set this, it's common knowledge that the margins for game development are razor thin now.
Unfortunately developers can't stop game piracy in China any more than anyone can stop movie or music pirating there. It's a communist country; concepts like intellectual property don't exist there because everything belongs to the State. It's not hurting the China so what do they care?
I hate the holy hell out of consoles; HATE THEM. But the cheapness and illicit behavior of some PC gamers are going to ruin it for the rest of us. Don't be a d&*k, be a dude. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Thanks for the heads up on the PVP.
This game has regular servers right? If it doesn't have non-PVP servers I won't be playing it (not that I'm too inclined to buy it anyway). PVP in RPG games is lame. If I wanted to listen to a 14 year old caffine junky brag about "pwning" me I'd play something like Counter Strike. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I agree with Froggz: "F" consoles in the "A".
I own a PS2 so I can play God of War and Dynasty Warrior; that's it.
The PC market is suffering the effects of not having a lot of retail space any more. Places like Gamestop don't carry more than a handful of PC games and since they bought EB Games, they've been just as bad. It seems like you have to go to soul-draining big box stores like Best Buy and Target to buy a PC game anymore (I refuse to shop at Walmart.) I don't like giving Best Buy my money because they suck and don't want to have to wade through mindless Target shoppers just to buy a game. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Molyneux is just bitter that he hasn't made a fun game since Dungeon Keeper. The Black and White games had massive potential, but in the end we pretty boring and didn't keep me interested.
Being innovative in gamming world is a major gamble since there is such a massive amount of money that needs to go into the proper developement of a game. The same thing has happened to the movie industry. Why do you think we see so many remakes and BS action movies with no depth? Because they put butts in the seats. Neither the Sims or WoW are innovative, but they have found a way to make something appeal to the largest audience possible; which sadly means simplicity.
P.S. - F consoles in the A. PC FTW! Flag this | Edit this post |

| It's clearly an addictive game because I have personally seen it create trouble for people's relationships (usually called Wife/Girlfriend aggro) and I'm aware of at least 3 deaths in Asia that were attributed to people playing WoW until they died.
Part of the addiction of MMORPGs is that they create the illusion that if you work at something you can get better and/or succeed where as in the real world you can grind all sorts of stuff (education, a career, kids, etc.) and still not get anywhere. It's very easy for people that feel isolated or feel stuck to prefer a fantasy over the perceived rewardless grind of life.
One post talks about it not even being that good.
It's good enough to have 10 million units sold and to be one of the top 10 selling games since it was released 3 years ago; that's good enough. I hate the hell out of BS pop stars but they make more money then I'll ever seen in my lifetime. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Yet another reason not to buy a Dell. Their motherboards, cases and power supplies are already proprietary so why not make the whole machine something that can't be fixed by any one except Dell?
Gamers (should) already know not to buy these turkeys but offices and home users may want to have a machine that can be serviced quickly and aren't going to get it if they buy a Dell. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I had also heard from a person that was playing it that it shipped without all the quests working and a little flaky. With so many MMORPGs on the market right now, its very easy for people to wait for a game to get "finished" before trying it.
I want to give this game a shot but I don't want to mess with it until it works. Flag this | Edit this post |
