"remake" why.... Why not make a new game with new maps and the likes... these just screams of lazy game making, mind you given hollywoods fascination with navel gazing and remaking / re-imagining old films its not surprising that the games industry is trying the same lame assed tricks.

Does the 4770 urinate on this from a great height for only a hand full more $$?

You want a better RTS game... any of the Total War series, Blitzkrieg and its add ons, DOW itself... All of them are better, I must admit I am very choosy about the RTS games I play most of them just leave me feeling crushed under the boredom of resource farming and swarms of anemic units. They actually make you think about what you want your units to do and how you want them to act.

I do know what the devastators are good at and how to use them, just the style of game play makes micro-managing units to get the best out of them next to impossible, and the AI they have means leaving them to look after themselves is daft.

» Damn it
I really hope this gets a decent PC conversion!

Escape from Butcher Bay has to be one of the best, most innovative and most exciting games I have ever played. Nevermind the fact that the PC version of that had extra levels in it over the console versions.

» Are you on crack, or where you just given huge amounts of it...
Sorry but I have been bitterly disappointed with DOW2, its just turned into a unit mashing walk through in single player (or healing pot managed walk through at harder levels). The difference between the various units seems to be marginal they are either melee or ranged and that is it. There seems to be no tactical let alone strategic play involved because of how limited you are by the number of units you have the lack of differentiation between them. There is no point in trying to get your devastators into a strong position to lay down heavy / suppressive fire as their range is no better than that of tactical marines, trying to lure enemy units back into a an ambush just doesn't seem to work either.

Not sure what you are talking about with the talk of RPG, the units are either melee or ranged again and you want to make them as tough as possible whilst getting the extra equipment slots. Yeah there is some equipment juggling but again there really isn't enough differentiation to make it worth the hassle.

As for multi-player it has devolved into nothing but point control and again send your units into the battle and keep your fingers crossed. Also the low number of maps (and their mediocre quality) really just add to the other problems.

» Whats the PC spec?
Why no PC spec given in the review... Yeah I know the box has its recomended and such, but they are often a bit dodgy.

Yeah I get that, but still how about giving us a wide screen res as well at the top end....

Also using a better GPU is gonna make a huge difference... the 8800GT is a good card no doubting that but its a good step down from the best, when testing CPUs you should use the fastest GPU setup you can get to give the CPU the room to shine. Doing a test at 640x480 just doesn't cut the mustard.

» not only brutal and honest but fair...
Bioshock was a great game in many respects, but in others it was hugely flawed. I suppose the most damning condemnation I can give of the game is that since I finished it I haven't once even considered replaying it....

If I compare that to Deus Ex I have just finnished ot for about the 8th time now, this time only using pistol (only when I had no grens / explosives or to trigger explosive crates) grenades, GEP and explosives. Deus Ex has so much added game play its still an amazing game (just got a mate to play it for the 1st time after he got bored of Bioshock and he loved Deus Ex, dodgy graphics and AI aside (by todays standards)).

Really I don't want to slate Bioshock I really enjoyed it, but it was a hollow shell of the game it could have been if they had developed it further.

» Whats with using a 8800GT for CPU testing?
Yeah I know the 8800GT is a cracking card and great value for money... but surely when you are testing CPU performance its worse than usless as at the higher screen res we all run nowadays the games are utterly GPU locked.

OK games such as Crysis are gonna kill a 9800GTX2 but still it is going to give the CPUs more room to impress...

Also why are you still doing tests at 640x480? Why not drop that and go for a wide screen res such as 1680x1050... a res many people now game at?

» Idiot demo!!!
What is the point in disabling the save feature in the demo you retards. It only means that I ain't gonna finish the demo as I got about 30min in into it then had to go out... Now I can't be bothered to try again. Especaily as you have to go through the openning sequence and movies again... Its 5 minutes before you even get to do anything more than swin forwards *EACH AND EVERY TIME YOU START THE DEMO*

Oh and it runs fine and looks stunning on my:
8800 640mb gforce
E6600 core duo
2 gig ram
Vista 32 home premium
with 1680x1050 screeen res and everything turned upto max.

Yes its running in 1680x1050 so it does have wide screen support.....

I am just now deciding if I want to splash my cash on a game where the demo has peed me off so much because of idiotic design. Will wait and see if any of my mates get it or not and if so have a play on theirs 1st, or wait till it hits the bargin bins.

» How does it compare
to System Shock 2 and Deus Ex (2 of the alltime greatest games for any games system ever made)

I am a bit narked that it doesn't support wide screens natively. Hopefully this will be fixed quickly and in the 1st patch (even the option to box it and leave the left and right hand side of the screen black) would be better than nothing!!), however its not enough to put me off this game.

I just wonder are Nvidia scared of the new AMD GPU and trying to squeeze every ounce out of the 8800 GTX to keep the crown, but if this is the case why the ridiculous price?

This card just ain't fast enough to justify the price tag that is being quoted. Its not like the next generation of cards ain't going to bury this card now is it..... If I spend silly money on getting a Core Q6800 I am getting a stunningly fast CPU now, and one that is going to stay at or near the very top of the pile for probably 2 years (and still be good for at least 3 - 4 years), if you buy a 8800 Ultra you will have a GPU that is top of the pile for 6 months, and within a year will probably be utterly trounced by the next gen GPU, and within 2 years is definatly going to be old news.

Hmmm well maybe you have a bit more patience. Personally i like games that draw me int them slowly, I find games that ram it straight down your throat at the beging to be fairly boring. That said I ain't got this game yet and may well wait a couple of months until I get my new PC.

» Geart article
When reading this article I was 1st wondering why the 8800 wasn't mentioned in the AA debate, and still aren't sure. Then I was niffed to see that you only had the 320mb GTS in and not either of its bigger brothers.

That said you are going to be doing a 2nd article to get all those missing bits, just hurry up and get it out :)

This is a game I have been eagerly waiting for for years, I really hope it lives upto the comparisons to Deus Ex and System Shock, I really can't be bothered about another run forward and shoot FPS game. I want a game that at least requires an intelligent player not just a quick twitch finger, think more Far Cry and less Doom3 and I will be happy.

The only thing this article doesn't have that I would intrested in is an exploration of minimum specs for the game as the website is worse than useless for this, (quote from the website below)

AMD Athlon 64x2 4800+ or Intel Core 2 Duo, 1Gb RAM, 3D Hardware Accelerator Card Required - 100% DirectXR 9.0c compatible 256MB (Geforce 7800, for example).

It should be noted that at the start of the game development our initially targeted system requirements were much lower. As a result (and due to the lengthy game development) the game can be played well on lower-end systems (the game ships with two renders - DirectX 8 and DirectX 9 one).

Additionally, the game allows to scale various options for optimal performance. For the maximum quality and performance, the more powerful system you have, the better.

This is just usless.... What on earth qualifies as a lower end system that it will run on, and one that it won't.....
