| » Calling Bullshit "best played from the couch" WTF? So what about those of us with home theater pc's that can game on our HDTV's with a wireless keyboard and mouse FROM THE COUCH?
It's bullshit. Guess I'll have to buy it for the 360 then....dammit. Flag this | Edit this post |

| "FYI 1050Mhz would be like 4.2Gbps GDDR5.. sounds fishy... ie why so slow when even 5750 ships with chips that easily OC 1400Mhz"
Because where the Radeon 5870 has a 256bit memory interface, Fermi has a 384bit memory interface. Nvidia doesn't need the clockspeed to match the bandwidth because they're going to be running a wider bus. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Absolutely ridiculous. Three-way SLI doesn't work with every game out there and for the ones that it does - the expense can't be justified IMO. I've tried it and it sucks.
I run a top of the line i7 rig with 2 GTX 285's and nothing touches it - this is overkill. The GTX 285 classified would be a stupid purchase also because of the looming dx11 cards set to be released soon.
Maybe those who are into benching might find a use for this - as for me....no thanks. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Kessandra, you may not remember, but we had a little chat about this a while ago. I said that Havok will be running on AMD hardware and you insisted that it wouldn't because Intel bought Havok. So what do you think about this? Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Tight @$$es You want to hear something really sad? I recently applied and was interviewed for a technicial support position in their Austin Tx office.
Come to find out that the position requires tech support experience, network experience, and desktop support experience but only pays $10.00 an hour. You read that right....$10 dollars an hour!!! Doesn't matter if you have your degree, technical certification or the last name Gates....everyone makes 10bucks an hour to start.
Pathetic for a company that has a mega cash cow like WoW. Flag this | Edit this post |

| You obviously didn't read the article. Here is a quote from that article.
"The two companies will also investigate the use of AMD’s massively parallel ATI Radeon GPUs to manage appropriate aspects of physical world simulation in the future."
So if Intel isn't doing GPU's, then why would the quote I've posted above say the exact opposite? Flag this | Edit this post |

| Actually, Havok is a wholly owned subsidiary of Intel aquired in September of 2007.
In a June 2008 Ariticle posted on AMD's website, it states that Havok\Intel and AMD will be working TOGETHER. Read the link below.

| Man, all this physics stuff has me on the fence about picking up a 4870x2. If a large majority of devs are going to use PhysX, and its exclusive to Nvidia...might as well stick with the GPU green team.
Then again, if ATI can get some momentum with Havok and continue to release reasonably priced kick-@$$ products...I may go red.
Decisions decisions.... Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I really really hope AMD turns it around and gets competitive again. Not because I'm an AMD fanboi (as it stands I'm running core 2 quad), but because I don't want to be paying $1,600 for a top of the line Intel Processor. Without competition, we're all going to pay. | » My Guess My guess is that you're right. Programmers will program scalability into their applications so that the more cores the merrier. An upcoming game - Alan Wake as far as I know will support 5 threads. Thats pretty much a 5 core processor that this game will be supporting which as we all know doesn't exist yet. | Not to start a fanboy flame or anything, but I've used both products: Nvidia and ATI - I'm currently using the 7900GTX in SLI, I've used the X800XL, 9800pro and I can say without a doubt that for a single card setup, ATI's product seemed to have better image quality, performed better with max image quality options turned on (higher sustained framerate), AND ATI has added features such as Temporal AA and Transparency AA to their legacy DirectX 9.0 products for FREE, AND they are still the only graphics company that continues to release monthly improved driver updates.
I did like Nvidia's driver simplicity\stability and I did not like ATI's Catalyst Control Center - which is why I went back to Nvidia, but since Nvidia is jumping on the control center driver bandwagon anyway....I'm going back to ATI - provided AMD doesn't pull the rug out from under ATI's graphics division.
Hopefully, they'll make crossfire mobos for Intel and AMD. Flag this | Edit this post |
