Yeah thats the power source, but thats not whats being manipulated to allow ships to travel ftl. This theory talks about manipulating dark energy (using another energy source, e.g. antimatter) to allow the warping of space. The analogy to Startrek is the creation of a subspace bubble which if I remember the tech manual correctly, works in an almost identical way.

Most modern games make very good use of dual cores with many being completely unplayable on single core CPU's. And games are now starting to make decent use of quad cores as well. GTA4 for example craves more than 2 cores.

I'm not too sure about that. If anything CPU power is increasing at a greater pace now than at almost any time in the past. A top end 6 core westmere will have multiple times the raw power of a top end C2D from 2 years ago. Not all apps will show it, but its certainly there.

Yeah because people haven't been saying that for the last 20 years.

Progress is good. Fear of progress is bad.

At the same time, larger desktop monitors are becoming far more common. Why wants to switch to a 15" or at best, 17" screen when they are used to 22" and 24". Even for day to day tasks like surfing the net and work, the difference is night and day.

I have no problem eating animals either, its the only way we can get meat which we are naturally entitled too.

However, if an alternative way to get meat can befound, then as long as its indistinguishable from that which comes of a live animal then its a truly great thing to no longer have to kill those animals for food.

Effictively the entire human race could go vegi without having to give up meat!

And thats to say nothing of the practical applications of being able to grow fresh meat anywhere without the need to keep live stock.

So removing the need to kill animals to obtain meat is now a bad thing?

WTF is wrong with you people? Thinking its ok to kill animals WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE TO is only one step away from thinking its ok to kill humans.

Frankly, i'm disturbed by the lack of value most of you place on life. You may feel that its ok to kill animals for fun, money or some irrational fear of science but lets hope you never come across an armed human who shares the same mindset with slightely stronger conviction.

Assasins Creed actually has MAJOR graphical upgrades in the PC version so I think its system specs can be justified.

Another excellent example of a console to PC port sound like it will be Mass Effect.

LA have basically just seriously screwed their once very loyal PC fanbase.

Seems pretty healthy to me. In terms of units the consoles sold 4 times as many games as the PC. But there are at least 4 major consoles out there still (including the PS2).

Seems the PC is right up there with any one console.

Sure CoD4 looks great. But Crysis looks much better.

So you would be happier if the game simply shipped with no high or very high settings at all? Then you could run it at maximum no problem. The fact that the game gives you the option to improve the graphics on future hardware makes you want to pass it up? Strange.

Whatever you have heard about Vista, forget it. There are a lot of ignorant people out there who want to bad mouth it for no other reason than its a MS product. Its actually a very good OS. Fast, stable and nicer to use than XP.

To FSGeek: Not really as Farcry is one of the best games ever released. An enhanced version of its gameplay can only be spectacular. p.s. sorry, I accidentally flagged your post - its way too easy!

Are you kidding? Crysis on both High and V.High completely destroys COD4, let alone Time shift. On Medium it might be comparable but thats all.

Great article but can someone tell me how I can actually turn on DVD upscaling on my PC? Im using an 8800GTS in Vista and I play my DVD'd through media centre. Do I need a different programme?

Good benchmarking but why not run the game at max settings? I see some of the sliders were only at 75% and soft particles were turned off. I think most high end gamers would be cranking those settings up to max.

Yep were you first find the revolver in the demo. The woman casts a shadow on the wall along with her pram/stroller. The edges are very jagged with DX9 (and on the 360) while DX10 makes them nice and smooth. Its a pretty big difference.

Hey Brandon, you should check out the shadow of the women and her pram on the wall from the first level (the one in the demo).

The differences between DX9 and DX10 are very obvious there. I suspect its only the dynamic shadows that DX10 effects.

Great, just what we need! Yet another controller standard onthe PC! I have no problem with Alienware wanting to make their own range of controllers but for gods sake at least stick with the format that MS are trying to make common on the platform. The 360 pad is a superb layout and its being natively supported by all games for windows games. Why on Earth would Alienware want to harm an effort that has the potential for huge benefit on the platform were they make their money from!!
