| Thanks everyone for the comments. Its hard to go in to work and be bigger than the external issues. I especially dislike holding things back from my employee's. It is what it is. Hopefully I win and will be able to have a small modicum of security.
edit 4-14 nope i lost ...no security for you! Flag this | Edit this post |

| It's probably a bit heavy. I wanted everyone out there to know, that I'm giving this competition of ours, more than 100%. Its something I really want, and despite what I would call a less than stellar work environment.
I'm out to win, on Firingsquad, and in the Big box. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Wow.. I made it. I knew it was going to be close.
Strangely enough on my spread sheet... (You'll like this Palindrome) I was managed to predict 80% correct. The two I missed I missed big. All luck.
I got home from work at 11 I opened the laptop.. my heart jumped when I learned the results were in... I scanned... SUCCESS. I'm celebrating even though I have to be to work at 5 am :)
Thanks everyone. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Haha, I wouldn't worry about failing the next editor. I made up a spreadsheet with ratings, number of ratings, votes, comments, and the preview impressions.... and I'm still lost. The page views are something I can't account for.
I voted for everyone objectively as well. I have a feeling that might contribute to my downfall. However I believe it is only ethical to participate fully without bias.
There are simply too many variables. I hope someone out there knows how much I could use a moral boost, and the money :) Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I wish my observations weren't so obvious now that I've finished everything up. It kind of scares me that Jakub didn't weigh in, and the slight typo on the author name. Overall I have a positive feeling. Good luck everyone. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I'm very honored to participate. Thanks for giving us the chance. Heck thanks for even having this website. I've purchased many pieces of hardware, and so many games based on advice from this website. I even managed to purchase the laptop I'm typing on due to a great deal found on this page.
Thanks very much I hope I'm able to move on. I can guarantee additional effort on my next submission! Mostly due to additional help at work (an extra manager), and a greatly relaxed schedule! 114 hours in a row. Bleh. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Thats more than slightly disrespectful, but I'll give you a reply anyway. The creative sound is an issue, however I didn't want to slam anyone without knowing the true root of the cause, and from my research the problem was acknowledged and a fix was in the works. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Thanks to Everyone I turned my contribution in early, I hope that helps my chances. I had to sacrifice any further brainstorming and refining to get finished early. As it turns out if I hadn't taken the ONE day off I did have to assemble my article I wouldn't have been able to complete anything. 11 days in a row is just brutal especially when you're working 12 to 19 hour days. Thankfully that has come to an end.
I don't feel my submission was my best work, but given the circumstances of my limited time, and a short deadline I think it was a decent representation of what I can do. I hope my work ethic showed, and I hope everyone else had as much fun as I did.
The fast approaching deadline and the strict requirements filled me with adrenaline. It was truly a rush of nervous tension when I finally clicked the submit button. Will they like it? Will anyone read it? Was it the best I could do? What is going to happen? Even sitting here now thinking about 'what could be' makes my pulse quicken.
I don't know about the rest of you but participating, actually saying "I'm writing an article for Firingsquad." Is a dream come true. I've been visiting Firingsquad forever. I remember reading about TNT2 cards... those came out in what... 99? Being an editor is one of those things that you never imagine yourself doing, but you sit there reading an article and think... "I could do probably that" and "Damn wouldn't that be sweet to get the games and hardware before everyone else."
To have actually submitted to the front page of a website of this caliber is an honor. The possibility of getting free hardware, prize money, and a start at making a living doing what I love is truly the dream.
When this is all over I feel that it will be an eye opening experience. I think I will have a better sense of how my article could be received by strangers. In that respect Thanks to everyone involved in making it happen. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I would have preferred a score or something. Ala' the firingsquad review. Personal preference that's all.
Your video while sorta hard to see made it clear that the force feedback was working, I was interested to hear how LOUD the unit was when you were turning against the force feedback. Interesting. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Nice work. I wish there were more games around for your to review. Forza Motorsports is backwards compatible with the 360, I wonder if you might be able to try it out as well.
You have a 60" TV, more media than me and a Wii tucked in there? So not fair. Now I really want to win so I can keep up with the Beefy's. Flag this | Edit this post |

| It seemed like you really hit on how it FEELS to use this device but not how much actual utility it imparts other than immersion. Does it create a natural way of interacting with the software? Is it accurate, is it a relaxing interface?
It looks like it would be troublesome to use for a long gaming session, and it seems like the user would have to undergo an awkward learning curve to become proficient with the device. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I'm going to play devil's advocate here... what is the article actually telling/teaching me. If I can't upgrade that I should playin empty servers? Or something?
I see the benchmarks, and I understand the time and effort they take to do.. but what are we learning from them?
I'm not exactly sure. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I bought Allegiance I have a copy in my desk. Then I found no one to play it with.
Your first three paragraphs are GOLD, if you are writing fiction, or something other than a "how does hardware effect a game" article. The hardware portion seems tacked on. Flag this | Edit this post |

| To answer your question, yes you can change clock speed. However, to be perfectly honest, I don't have the confidence to write a guide on overclocking anyone's PC. The inherent liablity of that undertaking is something I wanted to avoid. I have 3 little ones, and if my hardware breaks for whatever reason, I'm not getting more. Ruining my gear is not a risk I could take and still be able to compete if I lost the gamble.
As for the overwhelming the reader 35 configurations, I actually tried to avoid that exact situation by omitting the custom settings from the article. I have them all written out, presented in article form, it took up 3 pages, and I simply cut it out. I also cut the 2 pages describing exactly what each setting does in-game.
I mentioned which configurations were yielded the most speed, and which configurations were a decent balance. The others I simply let slide. Which as a scientist is VERY much against my nature. I'm one of those guys that would gladly do 2000 tests on 2000 different configurations to make sure I had enough statistical information to make a true determination of fact.
