| Apparently, the first movie is ALL of the Hobbit, the second film is a bridge between the Hobbit and Fellowship of the Ring and takes Tolkien's other references to help bridge that gap. At least from what I read of the press report and articles on www.rottentomatoes.com, www.aintitcoolnews.com, and www.theonering.net.
Also, there is a pole on www.theonering.net asking if you are willing to wait for Jackson to have time to direct, so far 74% of respondents say yes.

| It's like the Game Cube/DVD Player Hybrid that Panasonic made several years back called the Panasonic Q. It will just be another option out there that, like the Q, may never see an official US release. The HD-DVD built in will only be used for movies, not games.

| You said: "I'm sorry but this is very poor reasoning."
Please explain this. I never said the game was the root cause of the murderer's actions . . . I said it had SOME influence. I did not pretend to quantify how much influence either.
You said: "Yes, the violent videogames may inspire or arouse violence in SOME people, but that does not in any way put them at fault."
What? So you agree that SOME people may be inspired to violence by a video game but the video game in question is not "at fault" for inspiring violence in those people. Uh, that sentence makes zero sense.
You said: "TV, music, sex, arguments, movies, books, and many other things can cause the exact same stimulation."
Again, since I openly admit that there needs to be more trials regarding this, where are you getting the information that other forms of media exert the same levels of mental and physical arousal as an interactive video game? Remember, my comments were specifically dealing with WATCHING violence, you can't WATCH violence in a book. Watching violence is different than imagining violence.
You said: "Just because certain people are very negatively effected (it should be "affected" by the way) by them will not be enough to cause legal action."
I never commented either way in regards to what the family of the victim should or should not do legally. Your sentence, however, is PRECISELY one of the reasons (other than political agendas etc) why laws and regulations come into being. Philosophically, laws and regulations are to protect people within a society even if an individual person does not want that protection because the benefits to society as a whole outweigh the disadvantage to the individual.
You said: "Besides these links are correlative. That can never prove cause and effect."
Can you please explain what you mean by these two sentences? What links are correlative? Please define your usage of "correlative" in this context. Correlations show associations, so if there is a correlation between watching violence and committing violence then we can comment on a probable cause and effect relationship as long as confounding variables are taken into consideration during the design phase of any trial studying these phenomena.

| He didn't play it, the murderer did; just a small point. Besides, last time I checked, it doesn't take a fake ID to buy an M-rated game. I agree that parents have a lot of responsibility to monitor what their kids do but society as a whole doesn't seem to want to help parents out. Besides, you're telling me you NEVER snuck one by your folks (booze, porn, cigarettes, illicit drugs, sneaking into R-rated movies, etc)???
I'm not saying that playing a game will turn you into a murderer but watching violence of any kind will raise your heart rate and your level of psychological arousal. That's why kids watching wrestling or the Power Rangers will mimic the moves they see on TV on each other. That extends to violence in video games as well. Anybody who says otherwise is just plain wrong.
There may not be many trials dealing with videogame violence being translated to real life violence but there is PLENTY of anecdotal evidence to support it. Don’t you ever get keyed up playing online shooters? I know I do BUT I don’t go out and kill afterwards because I have a well adjusted, mature psychological coping mechanism. Not everybody is created equal and not everybody has that ability – and I’m referring to the adults here; children and adolescents are at a disadvantage when dealing with violence because of their immature and underdeveloped psyches. Just think about what gender and age group commit the most violent crimes, adolescent to young-adult males.
It is only a matter of time before some really large and well designed trials do come out showing a link, mark my words. In the interim, Check your blood pressure and pulse rate before and after a game and you will see a marked difference. The “violence” centers of your brain are going full blast as are your “fight or flight” hormones coursing through your veins. The games are not the root cause but that does not mean they are faultless.

| The game ran well on my Clevo D900T Laptop without any add-ons. I had a consistent 35 FPS +/- 5 FPS running at 1024x768 with generous portions of eye candy/foliage and even 2x AA.
It's silky smooth on most of the SLI rigs I've seen but I guess that is to be expected.
What kind of system do you have? Have you tried playing it? It does take some serious tweaking to get everything to run smoothly but it's worth the effort.

| Maybe they should have done some research before having this contest. I mean, how hard is it to Google it or even to go to WebMD to find out? I'm surprised a lawsuit hasn't come out of this yet. Ignorance is no excuse, they will get involuntary manslaughter if the DA is any good and the radio sation will loose millions in a civil suit if her family has a good attorney.
Moral of the story: Always ask a health professional before hosting a contest involving putting something (other than knowledge) into or (for that matter) onto the body, or involving any type of physical stressor.

| You are wrong. There are NO games above 1080i. You can get 1080p over component with the HD-DVD add on IF your monitor can accept 1080p over component. My monitor, the LVM-42W2 from Westinghouse can and does accept 1080p over component.

P.S. What I meant to say was, "It has no games that are NATIVELY 1080p" -- an upscaled 720p or 1080i image is not the same as true native 1080p. By the way, what XBLA games are NATIVE 1080p? Flag this | Edit this post |

| I agree, he has implied an incorrect inference to the quote. That is just bad writing. Just because your reader can compensate for bad writing does not mean you should write poorly. That is why there are editors and the like in the realm of journalism.

| Do you get mad at auto manufacturers when they release new models of their cars EVERY year? Some come with new standard options that may have previously been optional upgrades. Personally, I think they will offer some kind of trade in plan much like the automobile manufacturers and their factory incentive plans.
