| » heh I think the best part about Nintendo's success is that we don't have to hear from the xbox and sony kiddies who polluted gaming message boards for literally years with how Nintendo was going to crash and burn so hard.
Glad they all got a nice healthy dose of STFU. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | A lot of the comments here sound pretty defensive. Hmm, I wonder why. Anyway, anyone who spends more time on their games than with their wife obviously has some issues, either with his marriage, or more likely, with his emotional maturity. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I would have liked Nintendo to put more emphasis on the graphics and internet features. That being said, I think the Wii is fairly awesome. It certainly has a lot of promise and some of the first generation games prove that. I am hoping that the Wii is very successful so more publishers get on board and we start to see some true innovation with this design. The evolution of Wii games is going to be something to behold. | What he said was racist and totally out of line. It has nothing to do with the double standard you people are talking about.
Yes, there is a disparity in the usage of the word nigger. The difference is cultural. In black culture it is slang. In white culture it is a dirty insult. So when white people try to use it in a different context it doesn't work.
White culture has never embraced the word nigger as slang so all of the above arguments are total bullshit. I am white and I have been discriminated against. I grew up in hawaii and white people are a minority there. It is an ugly thing which is very hurtful. I felt it every day I was in school there.
Racism is still rampant in this country. It's a real issue. We as a nation should not tolerate this ridiculous and ugly behavior. That you people make light of it is just more sign of the ignorance that paralyzes our collective understanding of one another. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | The show started sucking when they forgot the characters had actual personalities and shared experiences together. Now all of them are equally insane and prone to do "wacky" things. I haven't watched anything past season 7 or so. The show needs to die. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » blah Nintendo just seems to like to give anyone who wants a higher quality visual experience the shaft. In comparison to the other consoles Nintendo is always delivering second or third best in the visual and audio arena, not to mention the online arena. What is their freaking problem? I understand their reasoning but I think they're just being cheap, stubborn bastards. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | The price seems a little high, especially for the controller. If Wii is being sold as a family friendly, community sort of experience, then why only include one controller? I would rather have an extra controller than Wii sports. If I wanted to buy three more controllers that's getting close to the price of another console. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | It seems more like fraud to me. According to reports I've read, which I am sure you're all familiar with, they've squandered millions of dollars of investors money. I don't really comprehend how they are still around making press releases. Their credibility in my opinion was oblitered years ago. I think gaming news outlets only carry the story out of a morbid fascination with them. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Hey if you like being screwed that's your business. Facts are:
Vista and all MS products are overpriced due to their monopoly
DX10 would work just fine on XP but is being made exclusive to Vista to drive sales
Vista isn't anything more than XP with more window dressing. Maybe it will have a higher performance in games, but i'm betting the differences will be minor.
People who think it's great to pay more than they should and think up reasons why they enjoy being gouged need their heads examined. Maybe you have unlimited money. If so, maybe you could buy me a copy of Vista. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » outrageous We're used to paying these hideously inflated prices for M$ products because they have a monopoly and we as gamers have no choice but to use Windows.
I do not find 259 dollars a reasonable price for an operating system, especially considering that millions of people are going to buy it. There is no reason to start at that pricepoint beyond greed, plain and simple. It's nothing but a rip-off in my opinion and making DX10 Vista exclusive shows you what dicks they truly are.
If you like getting screwed without lube, go MS all the way. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Developer perception shifting There has been a palpable undercurrent regarding developer perception of the PS3. We hear that CELL is a nightmare to program for. We hear that there are fundemental bottlenecks in the Cell architecture. We hear that many developers are very unhappy about the price.
Sony has been seen as the defacto standard for about 10 years now. For the first time since the Playstation, I believe this about to change.
Microsoft has signed up many of Sonys exclusive developers. This in itself can be seen as an indication about the level of developer confidence in Sonys nexgen machine. Simply put, there is nothing particularly setting the PS3 apart from the X-BOX except blu-ray, which is an unproven and very expensive format.
Nintendo is the other factor. By setting themselves apart from the competition, they have positioned themselves as the must have second console. You can find the X-BOX experience on the PS3, or vice-versa, but you cannot find the Nintendo experience without buying Nintendo. This will further drain Sonys market share and may even see them fall behind as both Sony and X-BOX owners will be more likely to buy the Wii rather than the competing system.
It doesn't look good for Sony this generation. They have pulled a Nintendo, basically. They got overconfident because of their long dominance and failed to see the shifting of industry trends and decided to do things at their own pace. They are living in a bubble which is about to be popped. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » PS3 is a sinking ship The success of the PS brand has always been due to its compelling features and exclusive developer support. The first Playstation sucked away the developers from Nintendo due to its CD-ROM support and went on to dominate the industry because of it.
The PS2 continued the trend by including DVD support, which contributed to signigicant amount of sales, and gave developers even more freedom to develop realistic worlds. With the sales of the previous console behind them, they were again able to line up many exclusive developers.
Enter the PS3. The landscape of the console world has changed. The new X-BOX is equally powerful as the PS3 and can do everything the it can do EXCEPT play blu-ray discs. They have also signed up many of Sonys previously exclusive developers. All of Sonys advantages have virtually disappeared.
The blu-ray is an unproven format which will not come to fruition for many years. It is far too expensive for widespread adoption at this point in time. It is an albatross around Sonys neck.
X-BOX and Nintendo have Sony beat on price. Nintendo has Sony beat on unique features. Sony will be playing catch up to the X-BOX perhaps for years. Nintendo will sell as many or more units than Sony due to its inexpensive price, and perception as THE second console to have.
In short, Sony has lost its edge, has dangerously underestimated its rivals, and has allowed its greed for winning the nex-gen DVD format war to doom its chances for real success in the console business. Flag this | Edit this post |
