| » I deserve the SLI rig because ... I have a young daughter and can't afford to purchase new computer components. Also, her mother is now suing me for custody and child support, so I had to spend all of the money I had on a lawyer. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Drivers Are there new drivers released for the new cards? I just checked the ATI website, and it doesn't even give an option for the HD 3870/3850 when looking for drivers. The newest card it shows is HD 2900XT. I just bought the HD 3850 on an impulse buy, but I haven't read anything about updated drivers for the card. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | These cards are the least power hungry, and quietest DX10 performance cards out. They are much quieter than the 8800GT from every source I have read. I wish the performance was a little better, but I may pick one up anyway at those prices. I love quiet components, and I know from past experiences that it is best to have the newest DX compatible card available to enable you to play games in the future. (I can't play Bioshock, because my X800 XL doesn't support SM 3.0, and I can't run STALKER with dynamic lighting for the same reason.) Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Wow! It is amazing that the semi-affordable HD option is outselling the rediculously priced HD option. If it wasn't for the PS3, this wouldn't even be a competition. At $300 I would consider HD-DVD. At $600, I would never consider BluRay. Both are too expensive for me to just go and buy one, but at least HD-DVD is somewhat affordable. | | Just thinking about playing this "game" makes me feel dirty. I may have considered playing it before these bans, but after looking into the actual game, and reading what some of the developers wrote about the game, I don't have any inkling to play the game at all. | » Piracy I still think it is funny when I hear the argument that too many people pirate computer games. I don't see it as a problem at all anymore. I would never pirate a game, if for no other reason than I don't want the inevitable virus/spyware that one of them will give me. I have already had my identity stolen once, and I don't want to have that repeated. But I would doubt that more than 2-3% of an installed base for most games are actually pirated. Most modern games have rather intrusive anti-piracy measures, and while these aren't hack proof, they keep the average person from copying the game. I actually avoid buying games now unless it is supposed to be really good because of the anti-piracy measures; because I don't want to have to deal with the troubles that it may cause me in my everyday computer functions. | It looks like this will be similar to when the first DX 9 cards were released. Doom 3 and HL 2 were supposed to really push the systems, much like Crysis is supposed to push systems; and one company is late to the party (in this case it is ATI, but it was nVidia then).
Are newer games getting better at using the multiple cores of modern CPU's for other things like AI? Have many major developers put an emphasis on using the extra cores yet? If so, who is really doing this? Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Thanks. I was hoping to see new nVidia cards in October/November and AMD cards early next year, but I haven't heard of anything so far; not even rumors. If AMD is getting rid of their inventory now, I expect them to release their new products earlier. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | How early should we expect the second generation of DX10 cards to be released? Has anything been anounced yet? Will either nVidia or AMD release a second generation part this year or early next year? Flag this | Edit this post |

| I was excited to hear about the HD 2900 Pro, with its price, but I could only find a German review on the card, and I can't read German. They seemed to really like it based on the many Pros they had listed, but then I couldn't read them anyway. Based on your other comment, it may be too much to consider this as an option as it looks like availability will be low; or am I incorrect about that?
Also, how are the new X38 boards looking? I know that Intel pushed them back until the middle of next month, but are they performing well? Flag this | Edit this post |

| | The advantage of going to 64 bit is mainly in the size of memory allocation. There are many disadvantages in going to 64 bit as well, as latencies increase because you now have a memory address that is twice as long. I'm not sure how 64 bit memory addresses will give you greater performance, but it will allow you to have greater memory allocations. Flag this | Edit this post |
