| Well, it IS an MMO, so I don't expect something like this to have graphics on par with today's modern shooters.
However, these screen shots don't show any sort of "Massive" multiplayer, if anything they show lower numbers than even a Doom 3 server much less a Battlefield 2 server...
I'll be impressed if they show a screen shot with something approaching Planetside numbers, but this? Meh. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Hmmm... The linked site has a you tube movie that seems more interesting than I thought it would, but it still didn't show huge battles.
From the official website:
"Servers will be solely dedicated to accommodate millions of users engaged in fast paced, large-scale combat."
Millions? No way that is at the same time in the same battle, too bad they don't explain what they mean by "large-scale". Link: http://www.huxleygame.com/huxley_movies.htm Flag this | Edit this post |

| Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that some people have more than one controller. In fact most people have at least two, and I personally have 4. How does spending $200 to replace all FOUR of your controllers every two years sound?
Personally, I'd rather have a replaceable battery pack for $10 or so. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I don't think that gears of war and resistance are actually competing for the same dollars. There are 3 sorts of consumers out there:
The type to buy neither 360 nor PS3.
The type to buy one or the other.
The type to buy both.
The only one where there would be competition for dollars would be the third consumer, and that person would have enough money to buy both, and probably would.
I also don't think that Resistance can compete in raw numbers due to the 360's installation base giving it a huge advantage, but I could be wrong about that. Does anyone know the sales numbers for GoW so far? Flag this | Edit this post |

| I think it's simply an issue that you are throwing away something that is not broken. Would you throw away a watch if the battery went dead? How about a phone or a car? (yeah, that last one is ridiculous, sorry)
Sure, I replace my mouse every couple of years due to it breaking (physically) or there being some new hot alternative out there. You know PC hardware, always some new thing around the corner.
However, the PS2 controller is still the PS2 controller some 7 years later? No change, no improvement, just the same old dual shock. Why should I replace it if I didn't physically break it or there isn't some new version that is better.
The 360 version is a happy compromise. It comes default with a removable AA compartment, but you can buy a rechargeable pack that fits in the same spot.
This is one more little "our way or the highway" move that Sony has forced upon PS3 owners.
Why cannot it be my choice to use a recharge pack or standard AA batteries? Why cannot I choose to not have a Blu-ray drive? Flag this | Edit this post |

| First, there is a "reply to this" link there for a reason.
Second, it was his brother that listened to the sales rep, not him... well not in the example he gave at any rate.
Third, I imagine the computer that he and his brother bought were the lower end Dells. Like most other outfits, Dell makes their cheap computers to match the numbers people want to see (MB ram, GB hard drive, GHz processor) but then go cheap on the components (no name memory, on-board video, cheap mobo, etc).
However, if you get the expensive computer from Dell (or anyone else) this just isn't the case.
So, cheap Dell = crap computer (duh), expensive Dell = good computer (but you paid too much, DOH!).
I really feel for the people who don't know how to build their own computer. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I agree with Psycho.
If the PS3 was $400 and had an optional blu-ray for $200 then I think more people would be interested in the console. That and they could have released it last year along with the 360 since it was the Blu-ray that slowed production down.
Also, the latest $600 video card is much more powerful than either the 360 or the PS3. PC graphics are moving too fast for consoles to keep up these days. Consoles are definitely easier to setup thou.
But whatever, I'm not buying an 8800GTX or a PS3 anytime soon. Flag this | Edit this post |

| This is similar to the current Supreme Commander beta with file planet. You have to subscribe to be part of it.
Anyway, you just KNOW people would pay good money to play Halo 3 a few months early.
You don't want to pay, then wait. If you are one of those people who just can't wait, you pay. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Two courses and 30 tracks? I think you meant to say two courses and 30 cars.
I've not played GT before, but two courses doesn't sound like much.
Next they will come out with GTA:4 and if you want to buy guns in the game you need to spend real world money for them. Oh, what? you finished the 10 missions included in the Premium edition and want more? Oh, that will be an additional $1.50 per mission please! Flag this | Edit this post |

| » I'm not crying, I'm laughing Sure, I'm laughing so hard that my eyes start to water from the strain, so I can understand your mistake...
"And no I don't work for them I'm just a hardcore gamer who cannot stand lag."
Yeah, uh huh, right. So, what is it like being a company shill? I swear when will companies finally understand that trying to fake a "grassroots" movement just doesn't work.
Despite me thinking you are NOT a hardcore gamer. Let me disagree with you here:
About the price tag: Yes, it is way too steep for a measly 10% gain. I just upgraded from a 6800GT to a 7900GT. Let me tell you it was way more than a 10% frame rate boost and it cost about the same as this NIC.
About the 65% boost to low end rigs: You will also get a much better boost out of a $280 video card than this $280 NIC. Or perhaps a $280 CPU/mobo upgrade? Yeah, both better for low end systems than this NIC.
The "oh so awesome" 65% boost was also from an average 15FPS (min 9) to an average 24FPS (min 12). In my opinion that's like pouring chocolate sauce on horse manure and saying "MMMMMMMMmm good!". Neither of those frame rates are acceptable.
But like I said in another post, all we have to do is wait for the real benchmarks from reputable sites to sort the whole thing out. Too bad those sites will have to pay for the card since it is highly unlikely that they will be offered one for free. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Um, what sort of 3rd world internet do you use? I get consistent pings to my servers all the time. Sure, a lag spike is possible here and there, but if I get a 40's ping on Monday, I'll get a 40's ping on Friday too. It's more dependant on where the server is than what day of week / time of day.
Also, they compare frame rates, that alone could be tested by using the same computer. Additionally, it's probably the most important selling point for this "upgrade" card.
I guess it doesn't matter in the end, in a few weeks time we will have benchmarks that show if this card is worth buying or not. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Oh this part is rich:
They didn't do tests on better computers because they "don't have two identical high-end rigs".
HAHAHHAHAHHAHHAHAHHA!
Oh man, thanks, I needed a laugh. You know, why not just USE ONE MACHINE AND SWAP OUT THE NIC? Oh, what is that you say? Because BigFoot said that wouldn't show the "Killer" NIC in a very favorable light? Oh, OK, it makes sense now. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Wow, who would pay $280 for a NIC?
Check out that "heat sink"... HA! Good thing NICs don't get hot because I don't see how a solid piece of metal could possibly dissipate heat.
The benchmarks were done with Dell computers sporting ATI X800 GTO's btw. That's a sub $100 video card! I think their money would be better spent on a graphics card update...
Something tells me that if you ran this on a more modern machine that you wouldn't be able to measure a difference between a machine with the "Killer" NIC and one without. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Well, console games are a lot more complex than they used to be. Also, there were bugs in console games before they hard drives and internet connections, but there was no way to patch them.
Did you ever have GTA:SA crash on you? Yeah, I bet you wished your PS2 had a hard drive and a method to deliver patches right about then...
Anyway, console games will always have fewer bugs since the games are written for static hardware, so I don't think we will be looking at the bugfest that is PC gaming any time soon unless the developer really rushes the game out the door.
Don't forget, in addition to patches you can download new content with that Hard drive. It's not all bad. I bet you won't be crying foul if they include a new multiplayer mode with a future patch, or new weapon types... perhaps motorcycles or helicopters? Yeah, no one will be upset to hear something like that. Flag this | Edit this post |
