| I know I'm definitely in the minority here, but I preferred DA2 to origins. For whatever reason, the story in Origins just didnt grab me, and the combat was tedious without mods.
My only real problem with ME3 was that it seemed way too short, and the Citadel seemed WAYYYY smaller than in 2 or 1. Oh, and the stupid ME1 face import issue. How the hell did they manage to let such a bug slip past the release date? The entire point of this series was to have one familiar continuous character that becomes part of your life, and they stripped the player of that attachment in the climax of the series! How dumb can you possibly get, LOL. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Agreed...dont these morons realize the game will be cracked for those who pirate in a week or less from the release date? What exactly is the point???? Annoy the paying customer so much that he would rather pirate your game?? Flag this | Edit this post |

| Pfft...forget Quake 2....how about using that same Diamond Monster on the original Unreal, and seeing that waterfall on level 2 for the first time.
Still havent had a game since then make me say "wow" like that. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I agree with the review---the graphics (while better than the MP DEMO) are rather underwhelming, and the story doesnt really interest me in the slightest.
Very disappointing...for my money, Crysis 1 still looks better in just about every way. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Ha, I dont know how far you got in the main storyline yet, but pretty soon EVERY time you call in the black market dealer you get an EXTREMELY irritating "How can I help you, hombre?" Followed quickly by: "Try not to break it now, Hell who am I trying to fool!"
Awful stuff. But the world itself makes up for it. Amazingly detailed and open. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Just Cause 2 is one of the few games to wow me on PC recently---the scope and beauty of the world is amazing on a high end PC, and blowing up things never gets old.
Civ5 is great, but man, does it chug. Even on an i7-860 and 5970, which IMHO, is ridiculous considering it doesnt look THAT much better than Civ 4, and also considering Just Cause 2 runs smooth as glass maxed out on the same setup. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Actually, if the rumors are to be believed, it likely speeds up the base core/mem clocks because the 58/59xx series are apparently unstable at the low default clock rates. The crashing (amusingly) occurs during low graphics activity, such as idling in Aero.
Downside is, of course, more power usage at idle. Flag this | Edit this post |

| " He didn’t just want it to be good. It had to surpass every other game that had ever existed, the same way the original Duke Nukem 3D had."
Bah...while Duke3d was a great game, it certainly did not "surpass every other game that ever existed". Flag this | Edit this post |

| Great article, but:
"As you can imagine, it’s a bit embarrassing when your competitor’s previous generation product is still considered to be the 3D performance champ."
I dont see how getting beat by a last-gen dual GPU card is embarrassing. Same thing happened to nvidia when their GTX 280 first came out....it was beaten many times by the 9800GX2. Now, if the GTX285 was beating the 5870 consistantly, then, yeah, it would be embarassing. Flag this | Edit this post |

| "In fact, it could possibly be the world's first 128-bit CPU."
Erm...I could be wrong, but wasnt the PS2 EE a 128-bit MIPS core at heart?
I've heard conflicting reports that the DCs SH4 was/was not 128-bit, but that would be another example. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Madden an "in-depth sports sim", LOL.
Somewhat, I was simply astonished to see how bad the graphics were for Madden 2010 on PS3...yes, at 720p. I couldnt believe how jaggy it looked and the washed out textures in the end zone....also, the amusing close-up of the QB's face on the phone actually has texture streaming problems. First you get a dull face, and then a second later, BAM, the detail texture pops in. Rather laughable how lame EA has gotten since they signed that NFLPA exclusivity license.
Bring back NFL2K!!!! Flag this | Edit this post |

| I'd hate to see the 'glowing red' power supply needed to run 4 285s + the rest of a high-end gaming system.
Are we near the point where 2 PSUs for one computer will be considered norm for the high end??? (shudder)
Please, somebody get PowerVR back into making desktop cards again. Or somebody else with a more efficient architecture. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Yeah, it seems quaint now, but the original Monkey Island VGA was easily one of the best looking games at the time on any system. I *think* it was the first game that looked noticably better on PC (VGA) than the Amiga version. Not bad for 5 years worth of technology improvements, LOL.
And even in crappy AdLib/OPLx form, the soundtrack still kicks ass to this day. I'm also one of the few that thinks MI2 absolutely pales in comparison to the first. Thats how great it was/is. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Nope, its indicated in the game's settings menu.....unless you add some commandline switches, it actually wont let you exceed the available memory/draw distance setting by much.
GTA4 is the only game I'm aware of that needs 1.5GB+ video memory to run maxxed out.
Dont get me wrong, even 47/100 draw distance is FAR superior to what you get on X360 and PS3, but it would be interesting to see what 100/100 looks like. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Again, if you love GTA 4, the 4GB (~2GB effective) memory can be utilized. I believe with all settings maxed (100/100 draw distance), GTA4 can use around 1600MB video memory.
Only game I'm aware of that can use that much vid memory though.
with my 1GB GTX280, I can only get 47/100 draw distance, which maxes out the available vid memory at like 997MB (48/100 uses like 1006, over the available limit).
Edit: Forgot to mention, I run 1680x1050, so if you run 1900 or higher, I'm sure it will use even more memory than above. Flag this | Edit this post |
