| | While I agree with most of that, 3rd party software cannot offer the improved multithread process scheduler that Vista has, nor will windowblinds unload its 3d accelerated desktop when gaming (like vista does), thus hurting performance. Flag this | Edit this post |

| The only thing that really pisses me off about these sports exclusivity deals is that we now have absolutely no MLB baseball game on the PC.
Figures; when EA starts to finally get MVP right, they never put out another one for the PC. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I dont have that particular issue; but it seems that if Vista handles this the same way, the Aeroglass desktop WONT be "suspended" in DualView mode when running a game on one monitor, thus obviously hurting performance. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Wow, thanks for the article and interview. That "suspend" feature explains a lot.
One less thing for me to dislike about Vista.
Just wondering though....did anybody test with DualView enabled? I notice on XP when running a game on my primary monitor that my TV (monitor #2) still shows the desktop. I wonder how Vista handles this? Flag this | Edit this post |

| | Hmmm, were all those benches run with the GUI eye-candy disabled? It looks like you turned everything in Vista off...I'm curious to see if the benchmarks would change at all with full Aero-glass effects on. My first guess would be a drop in game FPS, but you never know how much... Flag this | Edit this post |

| | On another note, mwave and newegg already have OEM copies of Vista ready to ship (Ultimate 64bit OEM for $199!). The only thing I currently find interesting about Vista is its apparent superiority in multi-core mutitasking scenarios to XP/2000. Other than that, it eats XPs dust in every other benchmark I've seen. Flag this | Edit this post |

| All I can hope is like they did with Core 2, that they put out a kickass performing architecture with (relatively) low power consumption, unlike Nvidia with their "nuclear plant" powered G80 series.
Given Intel's admittedly pathetic history in gaming 3D acceleration, I'm not optimistic though. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Problem is, there is a good possibility that by the time AMD finally gets K8L out the door, Intel will have caught up to it.
The only reason I can see they bothered to release such a massive, currently underperforming solution is to lay the groundwork for 8 core K8L systems next year (as I believe was mentioned in the article). Flag this | Edit this post |

| Although I dislike Sony as much as anybody on here, I have yet to see how PS3 is going to be a failure.
Fanboyism and the Playstation name alone should be enough to sell out every unit for the next several months. And its not like the situation with Sega, where their last hardware was disappointing (Saturn), they screwed over the 32X owners before that, and EA kept Madden and every other sports title off of the DC. I hate EA to this day for screwing the DC like that (even though I thought 2k/2k1 was better than the madden equivelants anyways, sales did not support that theory).
Well, unless Sony goes bankrupt selling the units for $500 before they can recoup some of the losses in game sales, I really dont see how PS3 is going to fail and disappear. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I thought Brosnan did a really good Bond, but the scripts were often less than stellar.
Worst unintentionally funny moment of his Bond time:
"You forgot the number one rule of mass media, Elliot, always give the people what they want!"
---from the horrible "Tomorrow Never Dies"
The way he delivers that line is so corny and forced, but then again, its not much of a climactic (is that a word?) line to begin with. Yet, it IS the climax of that terrible movie.
Goldeneye was excellent, IMHO, though. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Hey, be thankful that they have something else to say besides "Michael Vick Michael Vick Michael Vick" all the time.
For two years, in games that he was not even involved in, the announcers were talking about him.
Coming in a close second is "Eli Manning Eli Manning Eli Manning" Flag this | Edit this post |

| As an AMD fan, I'm wondering:
Why would anybody choose this setup over Kentsfield? What the hell are they thinking? Do they not realize that if Intel felt even remotely threatened by AMD's silly 2 cpu, 4 core setup, they could do a 2cpu 8 core setup?
Not to mention like everyone else said, the 4x4 probably wont come close to one Kentsfield 4-core in gaming. Why waste everybodys time with such a half-assed effort, and just concentrate on getting K8-L out ahead of schedule?
They'd better hope Intel has some problem getting enough Kentsfields out the door in November and/or they can significantly beat the price point. Just amazingly pointless otherwise. Flag this | Edit this post |
