| I signed up for the D3 beta because I am a gullible fool. I also signed up for the Path of Exile beta for same reason. Not a snowball's chance in hell.
But SC 2 beta, now I did get into that the day before release!
ForceSC2strategy has good videos on the beta for all classes. Good commentary too. youtube.
After watching these, brilliant game but already I'm bored. There was a magic to D2 LoD but you kinda had to be there.
Torchlight 2 by Runic Studios is looking to me like the better deal at the moment. Max Schaefer is CEO of Runic and was lead designer of D2 and D2 LoD at Blizzard. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Jakub, you put back those inflammatory comments right away! This game is utterly bewildering on a first play through and someone needs to say so. What you have said here needs saying! And even yet more!
Reading forums, advice from other friends playing, watching videos on youtube; all help. But why I got to do all that?
Select Whole Party: I bound this to the large side button on my mouse. Select Whole Party, focus fire on most troublesome enemy, or just run party back if you have room. Makes things a lot easier.
Tactics: Get rid of nard such as self surrounded by two or more enemies. That will sometimes cause a ranged unit to run forward. Use Enemy Any and a skill, sometimes tell hero what to do next. After you master that, get more complicated, because this only scratches the surface, the tactics are simply not set correctly stock out of the box.
Hold Position: Scout forward to find next group of enemies. If they come after you, run back to your party. "You skin these, I'll go get you some more!" Set Move Freely again.
Money Isn't Everything: But it is 95%. Find out how to turn on developer console and give yourself about 9000 gold. Get the best the merchants have. Hey, this is not a cheat, this is how the developers played the game! Stick your hand under a rock and promote yourself to developer!
Winter Forge: Still in development, but it works. Get this on the Bioware Social Site Projects tab. Puts a NPC in Camp who through dialogues will enhance weapons for you. Not game breakers, but a weapon with +20% critical chance doesn't hurt. Winter Forge is being developed into a crafting skill. Worth watching.
Play on Easy Mode: First time anyway. There is a lot to learn in this game. Easier to learn when you are not getting killed all the time.
Mage: Join the Chosen People. Be a Mage! Or take a couple along.
Pause: Pause lots. And even more than that. Silly way to do combat, but it is what you got to do.
Conclusion: Someone said Torchlight, and yes Torchlight is only $20 and is a better game from a play mechanics standpoint even though Torchlight ends so abruptly that you have to say it needs a lot of expansions.
Nobody seems to notice how similar this game is in play structure to Guild Wars Nightfall. Three configurable heroes in both. But in GW Nightfall, you also get four henchmen who, since the most recent patch, really rock! And GW Nightfall has better area graphics and many other excellencies besides.
Jakub, thanks again for this cantankerous review. Put back those inflammatory edits and add some more! You rock! Flag this | Edit this post |

| Good list, but:
1. Burning Crusade was not a new game per se, but it certainly had/has a lot of players and was extremely well done.
2. C&C Tiberium Wars was released with serious gameplay issues and technical problems that should have been mentioned. Still have not got back to it.
3. Witcher, imho, should have been on the list.
4. Guild Wars, Eye of the North? Well, just an xpack but a lot of people played it. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I voted StarCraft RTS, simply because I cannot imagine them going to South Korea, home of the most serious StarCraft fans, to announce anything else. Whatever it is, in the words of one of the heroes of WCIII, "This better be good!" Flag this | Edit this post |

| Being a very old fellow, I remember the same sort of groups were saying the same thing about comic books and horror movies back in the days before the transistor was invented. A comic book rating system was developed to help protect children.
But then, as now, the media was a scapegoat for poor parenting. At the root of poor parenting is lack of respect for parents. And the lack of respect for parents usually arises because the parents do not deserve respect. Simple as that. Flag this | Edit this post |
