| » Nintendo first in systems, and last in games Nintendo will easily win in console sales, but its games are almost all crap, it has a terrible attach rate, or they are leftover Gamecube games "retooled" for the silly 3D controller. The Nintendo Wii is to games what Jerry Bruckheimer is to movies...make it dumb, simple and everyone will buy one. Way to go Nintendo.
The PS3 will eventually outsell the 360 because of its BD drive, but that was expected since Microsoft will have a 360 replacement in a few years, but the PS3 is expected to remain on the shelves for another 8+ years.
The 360 is still the best system to own yesterday, today, and largely tomorrow as its got the most robust selection of good games and a bulletproof online component.
Nintendo is eventually going to be the system where the only games you can buy that are any good come directly from Nintendo, kinda like the cube, only this time around it REALLY seems to be the case. I mean the big "winning Nintendo strategy" now seems to be to port over every successful DS game into a Wii version, and vice versa.
I can't really complain too much, however, because all of my favorite PS3/360 games are rehashes of games I played already on previous generations anyhow :) Flag this | Edit this post |

| » You guys have missed the point.. The problem with vista is that it doesn't do anything BETTER, in fact...it does most things slightly WORSE.
Software doesn't seem to run any better on it, it takes up more resources for negligible or negative gain.
DX10 is a joke, no GPU's can push it at high rez and none appear to be able to do so that are currently on the horizon (if the 980)GTX is a bust we're all doomed for another year at least).
I want this product why? Flag this | Edit this post |

| » I love it..one month and now the 360 is doomed So long as games keep appearing on the 360, Microsoft has nothing to worry about.
Sony, on the other hand, still has almost nothing but BD movies and cross-platform ports going for it. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Yeah the reason most people never "got" watchmen is because its really just a murder mystery that happens to involve people in costumes. Its pretty boring if you ask me, and not nearly as deep as most fanboys like to make it out to be.
Marshal Law books are more interesting if you want to read about Superheros going rogue and having to have someone hunt them down ;)
I told a buddy of mine today that every time I look at pictures of WATCHMEN characters, I can't help but think..."Mystery Men II".
Old comic nerds are like the only people that are going to get what this movie is supposed to be about. Yes I count myself among those ranks (I haven't bought a book in 15 years however), and even I am skeptical.
Whats next...Secret Wars?
Hmmm..ok that would probably be cool. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Its simple math.. Studios have been selling DVD's at tremendous profit for the past 10 years or so, mostly the past 5 years. That well is drying up. They have released many of their big-budget pictures 2, 3, 4 times already and people just aren't buying. Their second tier releases dont sell nearly as well as the big bugdet films.
Theatre movies aren't generally that profitable. So the only way to get more cheap revenue for the studios is by relesing on a NEW format, get people to re-buy all the stuff they arleady own on DVD.
With two formats, MOST consumers wont jump in.
They will "wait until one format wins". That means less people to buy movies. MEANWHILE those people are getting bombarded with ON DEMAND ads..........that means the studios are running out of time to ESTABLISH a new format before they lose more and more people to downloads.
So now the studios have made the choice for us. With a winner, more people will now buy BD drives.....which means more potential sales for the studios. Flag this | Edit this post |

Now, if this wrapped around your head....that would be something :)

| | And if you haven't tried it, MOH:Airborne is actually a pretty damned good WW2 FPS. Instead of levels that are linear and have loads between them, MOH:Airborne lets you parachute into one big level..there are six or seven big levels, I forget, and you have to accomplish objectives across each one. The last 2 or 3 are VERY interesting, because you chute in the game is very vertical...land on top of buildings, etc, etc. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Michael Bay isn't as bad as that nimrod Joel Schumacher, hell I'd rather watch a MB film than anything by M. Night Salamiman at this point.
Miami Vice was actually a damn good movie, particularly if you liked the TV show, since half of the movie was based on one of the best episodes from the series.
Armageddon was one of the best brain-dead Sci-Fi flicks ever made, a true popcorn classic.
But I do have to agree that he's very 50/50...Pearl Harbor was straight-up atrocious.
Its like asking John Woo to make a Pearl Harbor film, with GI's flying through the air in slow-mo shooting Akimbo Colt .45's at incoming Zero's :P Flag this | Edit this post |

| Please don't bring this up....GI Joe and Transformers were ripped off the air and replaced by Asstacular shows like "Saved by the Bell" thanks in large part to the "30 minute commercial" crackdown that you reference above.
I mean, for gods sake, GI Joe and Cobra would have 10,000 round firefights in every freakin episode and NOBODY EVER GOT HIT. WHATS THE PROBLEM!? :D Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Wii makes sense...other systems? Why... I'd rather they just penned a new movie, forget a video game.
I mean, seriously...what type of game is it..its either a first or third person shooter right? Is your only weapon the Proton Pack? Whats the hook.....
Ghostbusters is rolling up on..what...25 years old pretty soon I think, and while it was an utterly fantastic film (and remains so to this day), the second one was atrocious made-for-kids drek.
If Akroyd and Ramis are penning the script, are they aiming it at the mature 30-somethings who grew up with the first movie, or are they aiming it at the Wii owning kids who aren't even going to know about the movies, let alone the cartoon series that came afterwards... | » I think most sane people.. ..will just buy both. Its what I did, its what others will do.
I'm sick to 'effing DEATH of whine-baby sites like TheDigitalBits just endlessly whining over and over about the dreaded "format war", how its ruining it for everyone, blah blah blah.
HDDVD and BD will continue to be like LaserDisc was for years, this kinda oddball technology that only rich people had..until one thing happens: DVDS GO AWAY.
Until that time most people are still blown away by how DVD looks and sounds. And half of the people who own DVD players have only owned them for a few years, and now they are supposed to rush out and buy a new format?
DVD looks amazingly good even at 100" or more....its just irritating listening to websites pontificate about a format war and how its all HDDVD or BD's fault and so on.
Its like..get over yourselfs, buy both and enjoy both. If one format dies, so what, its not like your collection of movies will suddenly be useless :P Flag this | Edit this post |

FOLDING PROTEINS: YOU PAID $700 FOR THE SYSTEM A YEAR AGO, NOW YOU CAN ADD ANOTHER $10 A MONTH TO YOUR ELECTRIC BILL AND MAYBE EVEN HELP CURE CANCER OR SOMETHING SOMEDAY!

| » Can't believe people like this game... Run at light speed, die in 2 seconds, the aiming feels very, very awkward (I agree with everyone else, its like the animations themselves aren't smooth), it also feels like the physical characters have no weight or inertia to them, people move and stop on a dime, spin, as though gravity doesn't affect them, etc, etc.
In a world of GRAWS and Vegas's and Battlefield 2's, this game just feels all sorts of wrong in the way it plays. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Give me a break What the hell is he talking about, his videogame systems were what trained an entire generation to get comfortable with sitting on their beds or in their living rooms with an arcade stick in their hands staring at the screen for 10 hours at a clip. What a fucking hypocrite.
When I was 12 I could go into an arcade with 4 dollars in quarters and make it last 2 hours playing games that, on average, amused me for about 3-6 minutes per play.
Do you think I want to be playing freakin Berzerk 30 years later? Shit no, I've grown up. I want GTA4, I want Halo, I want Soldier of Fortune. I Do not want to be playing The Sims, I do not want to be playing Monopoly.
The best part about comments like this from old schoolers whos relevance is no longer an issue today is that they never offer the solution. They tell you whats crap, but they'll never tell you their idea for what "isn't" crap, because if they did, they'd be laughed out of the hall of fame.
Shut up Nolan, you had your time and the world you helped build has moved on without you. When you're 40 you don't want to watch Disney movies like you did when you were 10, and Video Games are in the same evolutionary state. Flag this | Edit this post |

| The problem today is what constitutes cheating?
I mean, back in the day players chewed tobacco for the rush of energy the nicotine gave them...did that give them an advantage over the ones who chewed bubble gum?
Was it cheating? Or just cheating a LITTLE..?? Is there such a thing??
Is a high potency vitamin cocktail the same as a steroid? Answer..."maybe"...depends how it affects the individual performance. As soon as you say "this is ok, but this isnt'" people begin to look for ways around the "isn't" part....and you get these "well was he doping or wasn't he?".
See: Tour De France...
I think in the years to come, everyone is going to be on some sort of enhancing substance...and pretty soon, everyone will be on all the most potent ones. People will set outrageous records...and these people will also probably be dead by the time they are 40. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Well, remember: Digital TV is *NOT* HDTV. HD signals are just one aspect of Digital TV adoption.
And the $199 players are one advantage that HD will have this year, but the other one is that the HDDVD standard allows for Flipper discs: DVD on one side, HD on another. If they drop the price to $19.99 and make ALL movie releases flippers....ie: no more "just dvd" version, but all of them HDDVD/DVD versions...well, thats going to mean a big difference in adoption rates. I think the article here mentions that.
But I still think no matter what...people wont rebuild their DVD collections....I'll buy the pretty sci-fi and high special FX movies in HD where the extra detail pays off. But a movie like, say, 40 Year Old Virgin? Nahhh. Flag this | Edit this post |
