| There was no mention of videogames in the reports out so far, only that the guy downloaded alot of music.
BLAME THE RIAA!!! He was probably about to be sued!!!
PS: There is one thing, however, with videogames..and this *IS* true. Movies, TV shows, Music..all glorify violence.
Well, really, they glorify everything forbidden, its not just violence.
However videogames *ARE* interactive....they are not a passive experience, its you doing the whatever.....murderin....carjackin....mushroom and turtle-squishin...
So there is that one difference that videogames desensitize more than just videos and audio streamed into our heads, videogames are the next level.
Having said that...this guy was an adult....if his parents let him play doom when he was 10, and they blame the game, throw his parents ass in jail...not "ban the game".
The 50 bajillion people who dont commit homicide after playing FPS's probably have presidence over the handfull of nut-jobs just looking for a trigger or excuse to go on a rampage. If it wasn't a videogame, it would be getting fired from Pizza Hut a week later, or having some dude be rude to you while you're waiting for your McBurger to arrive... Flag this | Edit this post |

| » No Celebs? Lame I agree San Andreas was too big, with cities seperated by miles of pointlessly confusing roads and highways with little to do inbetween.
I'm just getting tired of GTA being a game that can't decide what it wants to be...does it make itself tongue-in-cheek like Vice City and make it violence with over-the-top humor, or does it try to play it serious and "gritty" like GTAIII which, personally, I didn't care for. I think if the folks in PETA want to have animals released and not tested upon, they should be the first to volunteer to take their places. Nuff said.

$400 versus $479 for a 100gb hard drive upgrade and optional HDMI? Sounds like a bargain to me.
PS: Microsoft wont lower the price unless they have to, and last time I checked, the PS3 was no threat to them at this point in time, they can see that as easily as most consumers. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » A list by adults Some comments:
Sim City doesn't belong on this list, but considering the old farts who created it, I'm not surprised its there. The Civ games do, but Sim City just isn't as important as the other titles on the list, and is certainly the odd man out.
Doom belongs, Quake does not.....Quake most certainly did NOT start the internet gaming revolution, we had Kali long before that..Quake just made TCP/IP "join any time" gaming a reality. Doom made Wolf3D look like a 4 color CGA game, Doom really did change everything overnight. Wolf3D hinted at what was coming.
Outrun? Final Fight? Fun games, but hardly groundbreaking..just popular in their time. I could easily substitute Atari Sprint and Karate Champ in plase of those two games. Sonic? You're kidding right...?
A game thats not up there that should be is M.U.L.E., and I'd also consider ELITE. ELITE was the first game that really had a truly interactive galaxy to fly around in. MULE is far more important than frickin SimCity :P
PS: Soccer? hahahahaahah...it must be because of some kind of AI routine that was written, otherwise this must be a very euro-centric list!
Also, I consider C&C > Warcraft....but thats a personal preference.
Super Mario Brothers 3? Hardly....... Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Seconded wiath Razgriz sez... This is just bullshit that Game Makers are using to excuse their lack of titles on the PC.
Piracy my ass...HL2 and FarCry and Doom 3 were pirated like mad, and they still sold an assload of copies.
The thing is, Consoles are "less pirated" because they require more work. With a PC you just install a patch or crack, with the console you gotta add hardware usually.
But this isn't any surprise, Console games have been taking over for years now. The PC had FPS's, RTS's and Simulation games.
Now its lost FPS's, its in the process of losing RTS's, and the Sim crowd you can count on one hand. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Nice breakout of how the US rose to power.
Except...nobody cares, because if it wasn't us, it would be someplace else.
The other option is to equally distribute wealth and opportunity across the globe which, by the way, would require everyone to be honest and trustworthy and take only what they need.
Which would mean, since that wont happen, we all bow down to an authoritarian world government who could keep us all in check and make SURE we only got what we needed, and that everyone got a fair shake.
Which would require for that government to be honest, which also ain't gonna happen. This is why Socialism and Communisim ultimately fail. The idea is sound, the execution will never be unless leaders and those in power live by the same standards as the poorest of the constituency, which wont happen :)
This ain't Starfleet...
So, ultimately, I'm glad we got here first :)
And I agree, Captain America's time has past...ENRON MAN needs to emerge. Kicking Cave-Dwelling Arabs and Opium farmers in the balls while secretly giving handjobs to Venezualian dictators with massive oilreserves.

But if this is anything like Wing Commander 3 in its presentation, it would be quite awesome. Can simple Quake-style games (or Quake itself?) be too far behind? Flag this | Edit this post |

| » This isn't surprising.. Microsoft knew this was going to happen. Industry Analysts also knew it. There isn't any compelling reason to move to Vista until two things happen:
Apps come out for Vista that wont run on XP
Games come out for Vista that wont run on XP
Microsoft End-of-Life's XP
I didn't move to XP from 2000 Pro until Battlefield 2's expansion pack wouldn't run without XP. Then, I never bothered with the expansion pack :)
So I moved to Xp "because"....there is no advantage to this OS over 2000 that I can tell.
I immediately turned off all the power-robbing vfeatures of the cartoonish XP interface and now everything looks like 2000..the old start menu, etc, etc.
Perfect. Flag this | Edit this post |

Medicom is a japanese only manufacturer so you'll have to turn to Ebay or other importers to get your hand on what will surely be a hugely in demand figure.

| » Both of these formats are on the ropes And will continue to be until one thing happens:
DVD's go away. If DVD's stick around, or Video On Demand choices increase, both of these formats will never break out into the mainstream and be "Enthusiast only" for as long as they survive.
Until that time, most people are going to be perfectly happy with DVD's. With most people buying HD sets that are less than 50" in size, a DVD looks plenty fine at that size from normal to recommended seating distances. Also, if you have a PS3 you may only buy a handfull of those BD discs.....and not rebuild your entire DVD collection in HD because, lets face it, some movies just dont benefit as much from a HD transfer as others do. And...do you really want to drop $25+ bucks on a new BD, if you already own the DVD, and its a decent transfer?
Now, if you have an 80" set..or you are using a front projector, then the move from DVD to HD resolution has more of a noticible impact, but Front PRojectors will continue to be a super-tiny niche product for probably at least another decade...or perhaps forever..who knows.
Sony desperately needs to sell BD's because they've already released most of their power-hit movies on DVD 2, 3 sometimes even 4 or 5 times. People just aren't buying a new version of Black Hawk Down on DVD. :P
Sony now needs to sell those titles on BD....and over again in a few years....all the movie studios do, actually. They're dipping into their valuts now more than ever, with most of the big-budget hits already out on dvd...and they're losing more and more revenue each year.
PS: HD-DVD will survive as long as there are EXCLUSIVE titles for it. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Its no crisis :)
I'm just sick of modern-day political bands. I can tolerate the old-school punks telling me how shitty the system is. Hey, I thought Guerilla Radio was the shit when it came out too ;)
A band trying to influence my politics is about as valid as some fucking pretty-boy actor trying to influence my politics. Kinda like, what gives them the right to preach to me? Are they so much smarter, better? Rage made some good angry rock, but people who try to hold them up as modern day prophets need to put down the hash pipe ;)
And I agree with the poster a few notches down.....after awhile you get sick of being told that this is wrong or that is wrong. Its like, "SHUT UP AND PLAY, this ticket cost me $40 bucks!". Flag this | Edit this post |

| » Yawn.. Rage's only distinction is that they became a mainstream punk band.
Their lyrics are the same "fight for the oppressed, you rich white teens who buy our stuff!" schlock that Punk has been shouting about since the London Riots in the early 70's.
Nothing new here, move along...move along.
How many of you who bought RAGE albums, went to RAGE shows, or bought RAGE gear decided to abandon capitalizim and instead fight for the rights of the oppressed workers of the world?
Oh..and that means you're getting your internet for free now from the library right, or you're still livin off mama's teats? :D
Rage made some decent angry rock....but there are so many bands saying the same thing..to sell records.
Kinda scary how guys like Motley Crue are now the "classic aging rockers on the reunion tour" and bands that were hot in the early 90's are now approaching "first reunion" status. Flag this | Edit this post |

PS: Office Space is like 10 years old now, isn't it?

Kids probably wouldn't like it today because nobody vomits, shits their pants, swears, and there's no rap soundtrack. Also all the actors are at least middle aged or up, back when movie stars were mature. Today if your leading man is in his 20's, he's considered an "older actor" :P Flag this | Edit this post |

| The drugs he's taking are for his liver transplant among other things. The guys gonna die, probably soon. But there isn't anyone who lived through the 70's who doesn't know who he is. The guy was a showman....doing crazy stunts, most of the time wrecking in the process, and always surviving.
Plus the guy was hard core, he'd be shagging women and partying hard 24/7.

| It's a shame, Twin Peaks was truly groundbreaking TV, particularly if you are a David Lynch fan.
But today, not alot of people know his work as his "heyday" as a hot director was in the mid 80's.
His works of late lack the excitement and newness that they had in the days of Blue Velvet.....its almost like going to a Lynch movie today just means "prepare to be confused and not know what the hell happened when you walk out of the theatre". Too much style, not enough substance. Flag this | Edit this post |
