If by "copy" you mean, find ways to implement something similar that gamers want, sure, but other than that, most FPS games out there are quite a bit different than each other. Stats, perks, customizable classes, bling, etc., are all desirable features in the current market for FPS, and becoming somewhat standard. It's the other features that make them different, and if you run through a list of what's out there and enjoyed even moderate success, they all have something different to offer, or play somewhat differently.

The death of CoD would be a bad thing for the industry and genre. CoD pushes others to compete, and has shown that there is a HUGE market to be tapped with the right offerings.

As for this service, not sure I see it being all that successful. They might sell some bling for people's guns and outfits, but other than that, a lot of the offerings are already available for free elsewhere.

Red Dawn LOL

At least they decided to invade in the 60s and 70s in that story instead of the 20th Century in CODMW2 when the US is the undisputed military leader.
==================

BTW, Red Dawn is set in an alternate 80's, not the 60's and 70's.

Also, the 60's, 70's, and 80's are all in the 20th century. We're now in the 21st century.

If you are looking for realism and plausibility in electronic gaming stories, then you are probably looking in the wrong place to begin with.

Realism and plausibility are boring. :)

You make the mistake in your last paragraph of acting like you know what's best for everyone. A lot of people get bored of RTS games, I stopped playing them for the most part years ago, because they put me to sleep, challenging or not. It's just not my style of game play. Bulletstorm is a fine game and plenty fun for those who enjoy it, but it's by no means the perfect game that everyone should play or would enjoy playing.

All politicians can sit and spin on it. None of them are clean enough and smart enough to ever get this country out of the shit-hole it's gradually falling further and further into.

"We the people" are a big part of the problem too. We arm-chair quarterback politics thinking we know how to fix various political and governmental problems, but we're all too panzy to do anything about it other than talk hard.

Wow, so the network goes down for a month, and you get one weekend to watch a selection of "on us" movie rentals? What if you're out of town that weekend?

Sony can suck it. Glad I never got a PS3. I'm sure some of the games are nice, but at least I didn't have to put up with this garbage.

There's that idiots word consolification again. This has nothing to do with consoles and everything to do with them folding under pressure from EA or whoever to try to increase sales by appealing to a broader audience. Single player RPGs simply don't have the audience that shooters have, and they are hoping maybe they hit a home run if they make it even more like a shooter and less like an RPG. I don't agree with it, and think it will only slightly increase sales, if at all, but that's what they are trying to do. Nothing to do with consoles at all.

Yeah what he said, I don't think Sony has ANY involvement whatsoever with The Old Republic.

Isn't it Bioware/Lucasarts, and EA is the publisher?

Doesn't really feel like it's showing gameplay. Gameplay to me would include a UI, show some skills being used, etc. This just looks like scripted combat.

Yup. What they do works well for them. Personally, it's not my thing, I'll stick to the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live for now unless something changes. Xbox Live is great (especially now that more developers are working with MS to provide dedicated hosting finally), and there too many games yet to play to justify another console for me.

Plus, it's Nintendo, they don't care that much about pushing the graphics envelope. They just want something reliable that works.

Graphics look good, obviously PC graphics (which made me laugh that this video was posted on Xbox Live which will inevitably look good but not as good as the video, which seems to have poor frame rates at times also).

Gameplay wise though, seems vanilla. Story sounds like it might be decent, like the background chatter.

No cover system that I can see other than ducking. No lean system. Both negatives for me (to this day I am still pissed off that CoD got rid of their lean system, but glad they at least added diving into prone with Black Ops).

You can do a lot with 512 MB of memory when there's not a bunch of unneeded resources fighting over it, Synchronous. ;) To me it's more of a development concern than anything else.

The 256MB of memory limitation per core on the PS3 is the worst, because of out-of-memory errors during development. I think the 360 has 756MB, but don't recall if any of that is reserved. I seem to remember that all 756MB are available to any executing process.

It's a very complex question to answer. Consoles are designed for a very specific purpose and do not have all of the processes competing for resources that PCs have. In this way, they are more efficient at what they do. 756 MB of memory on a console, with 3 cores, will do more for you than it will on a Windows PC.

On paper, it could look like the PC would have had better rendering capabilities, but in practice, it might not appear that way at all because of ineffience use of computer resources, or even simply how the user uses their PC (installed software, processes executing, etc.).

Even now, I would wager that console games look as good as they do on the average gamer's PC. Just because better tech is available, allowing for higher resolution, etc., doesn't mean that your average gamer even has close to that. Consider the resolution that you get on consoles currently, and think about how terrible PC games often look in comparison at that same resolution.

It's part of the problem with the PC gaming community. People forget that not everyone has the latest/greatest, and therefore, everything will look the best on a PC. That's just not reality.

You're talking to someone who plays a LOT of games and has for a long time. There has been an extreme lack of creativity in the FPS market for years. Look how long it took before someone took some of the great ideas from the Tribes franchise of a decade ago and started partially implementing them, and those aren't even original ideas.

Right now, creativity in FPS has largely been limited to player loadouts/customizations, an RPG element in a FPS, and that's very disappointing.

Right now, you've played one shooter and you've pretty much played them all with a few minor exceptions.

It's a copout by DICE to blame stagnation on consoles. This started well before consoles entrenched themselves firmly in the FPS market. Consoles don't force the dev's hands.

The fact of the matter is that publishers and developers have gotten lazy. Fewer risks are taken, and too many games are rushed out before they are ready in the name of the almighty dollar.

All talk. Come release time, you'll have another vanilla product that does exactly the same thing every other FPS does out there, with different graphics.

To me this interview just sounds like the DICE exclaiming, "we don't know how to overcome competition with good gameplay, so we're going to misdirect blame with excuses."

The boomerang looking thing looks retarded. Seems like their answer to Gears of War's lancer chainsaw or Bulletstorms lasso, except they failed miserably at capturing any cool factor with it.

Someone tell Carmack that Zelda already did the boomerang thing over two decades ago.

You guys are ignoring the fact that the reason there is a breach of contract is because a contract was signed/agreed to in the first place.

Employees have the right to not sign such contracts, just as the employer has the right to let them go if they refuse to sign it, and to enforce the contract should it ever be broken.

If anyone is at fault here, it's Desilets.

SOE has never invested that much money in marketting, or if they do, it's in some avenues that I never see. Blizzard has commercials running on TV all the damn time. Never saw this for any SOE game.

With that in mind, EQ2 had expansions almost yearly just like EQ1, but it was never really as big as EQ1 was. The poorly optimized graphics engine I think kept people out of the game. It didn't look that great most of the time, but at high settings brought any machine to a crawl at high resolution.

I think that's what WoW had going for it. The graphics while cartoony were so simple and decent looking, and would run on practically anything.
