| A few misconceptions, I think.
People need to own an XBox to get the HD-DVD upgrade, anyhow. So you'll have already spent the equivalent on a 360 and HD-DVD player as you would on a PS3. So that's a wash. But the big thing is, it doesn't have HDMI output. Without HDMI there's no way to output DTS-HD or Dolby TrueHD. The 360 is only capable of outputting 1080p via VGA cable (component cables do not have enough bandwidth to exceed 1080i output), which is not as high fidelity as an HDMI connection. | These formats will win out once HDTVs become mainstream. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. People that currently own HDTVs look at their SD-DVDs and think how crappy they look (me included). But I don't wnat to pay as much for a BD player and media as I did for my TV.
BR is winning because it has greater studio support. More studios pledge BD exclusivity = more purchasers. It's quite simple, really. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I think they're trying to point out points in chronological time that brought out absolutely new, fresh ideas that hadn't been seen before. Although I do agree, SMB3 is an odd addition over the 1st game.
-Warcraft series was leaps and bounds more popular than the C&C series and the name carries much more weight to this day. Even despite Dune II being probably the start of modern RTSes, Warcraft brought it to the mainstream
-SimCity deserves a spot right there with Civilization as games that began an entire genre of games that were seen as 'cool' to play. Look at the commercial success of both.
-While Wolf3D was the first 'true FPS', Doom is what really started the absolute 'OMG did you see this game!' craze. How many people DIDN'T at least see the shareware version?
-Although I do think they missed the spot with the sports title. Flag this | Edit this post |

| It's kind of a covert statement, in that they're looking to develop a high-end solution. This would mean that they're at least a year out from even releasing hardware, right?
On the positive note, perhaps integrated solutions will finally be a viable option? Flag this | Edit this post |

| Unique titles is what gave Sony the decisive advantage these past two generations.
Games like Gran Turismo, Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Metal Gear Solid, etc. which are all exclusives to the Sony and Playstation name. Once you see titles such as those branch out, kiss Sony's dominance goodbye.
On that note, Gears of War is the first title that is moving this generation of consoles (like Halo did for XBox). Flag this | Edit this post |

| Again, it comes down to audience. So yeah, having tons of PS2 clones on PSP sucks, but there's more 'mature' titles on PSP. Metal Gear Solid, Killzone Liberation, Syphon Filter, Valkyrie Profile Lenneth, just to name a few. DS is fun and all, but I'm not a huge fan of New Mario Bros, Zeldas, and games of that nature.
Plus, I love watching Transporter on my PSP :p Flag this | Edit this post |

| | PSPs are actually pretty sweet little devices. The screen is absolutely gorgeous, so that makes for excellent video playback, it doubles as a portable music player, and it also plays games! Yes, it does have shortcomings, but what devices don't? And if you're really into tech: homebrew apps are awesome (playing my whole entire SNES collection on the go :-) Flag this | Edit this post |
