| | I don't understand how this review was done without 5850 numbers. Sure it's in a different price bracket, but it needs to be in there for comparison's sake. As I've seen elsewhere, performance numbers (at times) are closer than you would think. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | I hope they're not planning to do this with just a partially disabled Fermi core. As we saw with the 5830, partially disabled chips still have nearly the same power draw. Can you imagine a $150 card (competing with 5770) with the same power draw as a 470? Flag this | Edit this post |

| It's not quite THAT simple, because you're assuming GDDR3 and GDDR5 have the same latency (they don't).
On the whole though, yeah, GDDR5 is very cool, and the performance it allows us to get from cheap 128-bit chips is one of the best perks. It's my opinion that the 5770 needs to be priced lower though, because I don't think it will outperform the 4890. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I'll reserve my final judgement until after I see some numbers in real games, and with non-beta drivers.
However, 73.6GB/s bandwidth is significantly less than the 115.2 of a stock 4870. I was hoping they'd at least have a 192-bit interface. Unless you've got some highly optimized games, the bandwidth is going to hold it back. Flag this | Edit this post |

| | They're going to have to sell this card for significantly less than $200 if they want to move any units. I know the numbers and drivers are nowhere near final, but it sounds like this card will put out 4870 performance at best, and those can be had for under $120. Flag this | Edit this post |

| 512-bit makes the GPU more complicated, increases die size, and results in lower yields. It also means the PCB needs to be more complex and costly to produce. The end result is a more expensive card and lower profit margins for the chipmaker.
Of course, 256-bit puts a limit on possible bandwidth, but only ATI knows how much that will hold back their new chip. Flag this | Edit this post |

| In any other situation the 4670 would be a great card, but with 4830's going for little as $75AR with free shipping, you'd have to be a fool to pay more than $50 for anything else.
Relative to what's out at a given time, I honestly can't remember there being a better value than the 4830 in the history of videocards. It drops the bottom out on everything. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Can't really get mad about this. These chips have been optimized about as far as they can go and new videocards are so cheap now it's ridiculous.
You can get a 4830 for about $75 that will blow the doors off anything from the X1k series and prior. Flag this | Edit this post |

| I was initially very interested in this game, but all the news about their abusive DRM completely lost me as a customer.
In my opinion, that's worse than losing someone to piracy. Pirates don't always have money to spend anyway. I do, and they won't be getting any of it. Flag this | Edit this post |

| » The Question Most Want To Know Honestly, GPU vs CPU numbers are nice, but I would rather see how much of a hit enabling GPU physics causes in the first place.
Show the framerates with GPU physics versus no physics at all. If we're talking about a 50% hit or more, that probably won't be acceptable to most. Flag this | Edit this post |

| Do you think AMD really expects the masses to buy 4 GPUs?? You have to do some detective work just to find it mentioned on their website.
So why are you bitching about having more options again?? Nobody's forcing you to buy 4 cards. Do you just like having all your decisions made for you? Flag this | Edit this post |

| For those of you who can't understand basic economics, I'll make it very simple...
The whole reasoning behind a price cut is to increase demand. If demand is already outstripping supply, a price cut would be moronic.
The only reason for doing so would be to lose money. Flag this | Edit this post |

| The O-line is actually quite good. Grossman is just completely immobile and has no pocket presence. The running backs are also doing a very poor job of picking up blitzes.
Muhammad is over the hill, and needs to be benched. Berrian gets double-teamed. Flag this | Edit this post |
